I would appreciate any words of wisdom on this as dont know what to do. I am 21 wks and have had three bleeds: 10 wks, 17 and 18. For about five weeks i have had pain around pubic area, sometimes it spreads. It is like a dull period pain and can get very bad. Paracetemol does not work, heat can help. approx one and a half weeks ago was very bad and went to hospital. They said cervix closed, prescribed coedine which I am too scared to take. I have been off work five weeks with this and now due back on wed.
I had a mc in July. I have a two year old. I don't know whether to call hospital or ride it out. It seems fairly constnat but then at times much worse but does not really go altogether so cant be labour pain can it?
I dont really want to go to hospital if I can help it as they are useless just leave me sitting for ages and then do an internal and send me home. What to do? So anxious. And my son has bad chest so dont really want to leave him with his gran - dh at work.

Oh, it has been there - the pain, since early evening. I have taken paractemol, had hot bath and water bottle, still pain remains...

I would ring the hospital or midwife, they are there to reassure you.

I had PGP from about 25 weeks but it sounds different to what you've described, it was a very acute stabbing type pain sort of in the crease at the top of my leg - almost like a muscle spasm but also with dull pain radiating out from the area.

You have done all the sensible things ie paracetamol, warm bath etc - ring them and see what they say. Ok you might have to go in and be messed around wait around for a bit but I would say it was worth it for peace of mind. I'm sure your DS will be fine with his gran if you have to go in.

Hope eveything's ok xx

I looked up somewthing called symphis pain which supposedly does start in your pubic area?

Doesn't sound like SPD to me - mine was much more of a sharp pain, made much worse by some movements. Is yours constant, even while not moving and sitting/lying in a comfortable position? I think contacting midwife/doctor is a good idea.

surfmama · 29/01/2012 22:39

hi ging i think it would be fine to call the hospital midwife i have done this three times about things and i think you need reassurance. just give them a call and see what they say, hope it feels better for you soon.

I called the midwife she said take codeine and call back if does mot improve. Did take codeine and fell asleep but awake now and it's back. Just can't face hospital still in same area

I am in no way an expert but have been through two pregnancies with SPD. Does it stab in your pubic region when walking upstairs or rolling over in bed? Is there pain anywhere else, like in your lower back? Are you constipated at all?

Mikocat · 30/01/2012 12:54

OP, codeine will numb the pain for a while, but will not cure it, so it is going to come back. IME it's more effective at dealing with SPD/PGP (same thing) pain than paracetamol though, which did very little for me.

Mikocat · 30/01/2012 12:55

I should also say that apparently SPD/PGP doesn't harm the baby AT ALL and it sounds like he/she is wriggling around quite happily in there, oblivious to all the upset they are causing! :)

uggmum · 30/01/2012 13:01

I had the same thing in both pregnancies. Worse in my second. From 18 weeks I couldn't even lift my leg to put my knickers on. Took all available pain relief and was induced at 38 weeks as my consultant said I'd suffered enough.

Flickstar · 30/01/2012 20:33

Have you been checked out for a urine infection? I was havining similar pains and it turns out that it was my bladder as it was inflamed and tender and actually nothing to do with my cervix/uterus.

Ginga66 · 02/02/2012 23:21

Hi guys now they say it's round muscle pain, the ligaments that are by my pelvic bones and on co dydramol instead. Not urine infection and dull ache not stabbing pain.
