Morning sickness = girl?

Sorry if this has been done a million times before but I'm currently 12+6 and have had appalling 'morning'/ all day sickness since for last 7 weeks. People keep saying 'ooh, that means it's a girl!' Apparently you get worse sickness with girls? We'd quite like a girl (though would be overjoyed beyond words with a healthy version of either!) so are quite intrigued about whether there's anything in this theory? What are your experiences? And any other theories on ways to get an inkling before the 20 week scan? So exciting! x

I had hideous hideous morning sickness from 5-16weeks....my son is 2 and a half!
This theory is nonsense... (I mean that in the nicest possible way!)

GlaikitFizzog · 27/01/2012 15:23

I was sick until 20 weeks, DS is asleep upstairs! Old wives tale, sorry :o!

lisaro · 27/01/2012 15:24

Nope - puked for Britain with all 3 of my boys - sons DP is the same now with a little boy.

Ginismyfriend · 27/01/2012 15:26

I had no morning sickness at all with DD (very lucky I know)... Sorry... And several relatives swore blind she was a boy because of the shape of my bump!

OneLittleBabyGirl · 27/01/2012 15:27

I have no morning sickness at all and my PFB is a girl.

I'm 29 weeks with a girl and i've had absolutley nothing no sickness at all!

fuzzywuzzy · 27/01/2012 15:30

First pg ; hyperemesis = girl
Second pg; fine no nausea = girl

PaschaAndCustard · 27/01/2012 15:31

nausea the whole way through, right up until my son was born. I also had poor skin and greasy hair which is apparently also a sign of girls Hmm

Peasandyoghurt · 27/01/2012 15:36

Wow, on the basis of that little sample looks like it's quite the opposite then - morning sickness = must be a boy! Interesting...

Missgiraffe1 · 27/01/2012 15:37

Nausea and sickness waaaaaaaay worse this time around that my first pregnancy.
1st was DD, this one is a boy (assuming the 'boy bits' the consultant showed us on the scan are indeed what they looked like! Smile )

OnlyANinja · 27/01/2012 15:37

On the basis of that little sample morning sickness = no indication of the sex of your baby.

cece · 27/01/2012 15:38

DD - was sick twice during first trimester, both times after eating too much in hot and airless restaurants.
DS1 and DS2 - no sickness whatsoever, not even a hint of it.

Sandra2011 · 27/01/2012 15:39

Two times I had 24/7 morning sickness between weeks 6-12.

Result two boys.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/01/2012 15:39

I had hyperemesis for 42 weeks and had a girl. As did my SIL with two girls.

Peasandyoghurt · 27/01/2012 15:43

OnlyANinja I was actually being a bit sarcy - about the propensity of people to reply to say 'no, don't be so stupid because mine's a boy and' vs anybody saying, e.g. 'I had ms and a girl, but probably coincidence'. I don't need to be patronised - was just trying to start an anecdotal fun chat about different people's experiences. Apologies if I instead came across as being simply stupid!

I have 3 boys.

No morning sickness at all with any of them (but then my body never really seems to react to hormones - never pre-menstrual etc).

gigglepin · 27/01/2012 15:48

nausea from the moment i opened my eyes in the morning till the moment i closed them at night for 16 weeks
Had a boy.

utter crappola wives tales...sorry!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 27/01/2012 15:56

Very true in my case. First dc was a girl and I was sick as a dog. With the next pregnancy I barely wretched so suspected boy. I was right. On the third now, and again the lack of throwing up made me think boy. Right again. One of the horrible old wives tales that was also true for me was that dd made my nose grow. In pictures of me in the last month or so of that pregnancy it looks like my nose is hell bent on world domination. It spread to take up about half of my face Shock

Happenstance · 27/01/2012 16:08

Had a friend with hyperemesis, in and out of hospital throughout she has a lovely boy,

I was sick for the first 6 months but turned out to be an underlying medical condition ,Girl,

But i do love the old wives tales i did a test on the internet and based on the answers i have about a 50/50 chance of either sex Hmm

Peasandyoghurt · 27/01/2012 16:11

No WAY fuckity?! Your nose grew?!!!!!! I've never heard of that one before! Length or widthways?! Yikes! Did it at least go back down again?!

ASByatt · 27/01/2012 16:11

These old wives' tales make me smile.

My best friend had no sickness at all during her first pregnancy, then spent most of her second pregnancy with her head in a bucket.............

Both were girls!

ginmakesitallok · 27/01/2012 16:11

I had no morning sickness at all with either of my pregs - 2DDs - so it must be nonsense Smile

VeronicaSpeedwell · 27/01/2012 16:13

I really have no idea how the old wives in question even imagined this would work. Is the theory that a boy baby's micro-todger is an anti-emetic? Or what?

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 27/01/2012 16:14

Width ways. It just spread. All went back to normal thankfully, but I've read since it's one of the old wives tales that predict a girl. DP didn't even recognise me in the pictures he saw, I looked so swollen Blush
