Sex in Pregnancy?

I'm currently six weeks pregnant with my second child.

With my first, I stayed away from sex. This was mainly because I'd had an early MC in a previous pregnancy and was worried the same thing would happen again. In the second trimester, I had a little bit of spotting so I avoided it because of that.

I'd like to have sex with my DH, but worried.

What would you do?

No advice from me I'm afraid as in the same boat - I'm currently 12+5 and haven't allowed dp near me since we found out I was pregnant. Completely terrified it could cause miscarriage. Really unfair on dp. He's being really understanding but I promised him I'd be ok after 12 week scan, which we've now had, but just before it I read you're not officially in 2nd trimester til 14 weeks so on that basis have now said I can't do anything til then! Truth be told I'm not that optimistic even 14 weeks is going to reassure me that much... :(

Looking forward to some wiser ladies coming along to reassure us... x

I spotted twice in my first trimester so waited until after my 12 week scan to have sex. The first time we did I bled a little, spoke to the midwife who assured me it was fine and normal. Have since only had sex once since (22 weeks now), but I don't feel like I need to. We seem much closer with the news of our baby anyway. Just go with what you feel, it'll probably happen when you least expect it xx

Hmm
Dh was a bit funny about it at first
But soon got over that
Sex was fab when pregnant imo.
Right up to the end

Had loads of sex with first baby but had mc in July and now twenty one weeks with second and avoiding sex because have had bleeding this pregnancy. I was told having orgasm contracts womb so not doing that eitherwww.mumsnet.com/te/3.gif

Thanks all, perhaps I'll wait a while 'til the 12 week scan or until I see the midwife and perhaps ask then. I'm so tired at night so perhaps I wouldn't be in the mood anyway, but I do miss it and so does DH. Perhaps we'll have to think of other ways to keep us both happy in the meantime.

I had an early MC and then spotting early in this preg but it's not stopped me having sex 40+2 and still going, i asked midwife after the spotting if i should stop and she told me it was fine to keep doing it. Babys perfectly healthy and happy in there.

Quite aside from sex not being harmful at all (unless you have a condition you've been told about which may be affected - ie placenta previa) if you're having regular orgasms then your pelvic floor is getting a pleasurable workout that you don't need to concentrate on!

I've always carried on as normal right up until the end although to be honest we've dropped down to maybe only twice a week lately - combo of two teens around, a toddler and being pregnant = not that conducive to getting it on!
