So I found out I had a bfp on tuesday after 2 years of trying a a mc last jan early on. On wednesday I was spotting when I wiped. Rang the doc and was told bed rest was best chance of avoiding another mc.
Think I am around 5 weeks.
Just wondered whether anyone has experienced this as i'm worrying lots and so want everything to be fine. Thanks

Hello there, I had a very heavy bleed at about 9 weeks. Went in for an early scan and everything was fine. Now 23 weeks. Scared me silly as I thought that was it.

jellyspoon · 26/01/2012 17:28

Thanks weezie, I didn't have a lot of blood, it started like this last mc but within 2 hours of spotting it was very heavy so i'm holding on to that being different this time. My boobs are still hurting not sure if should anymore symptoms x

I didn't have any symptoms whatsoever until about 12 weeks which was always worrying as I just kept thinking it had gone when I had the bleed, even after the scan.

tiredteddy · 26/01/2012 17:37

It can be very worrying to have bleeding in those early days. With Ds1 I had light bleeding at 6 then 8 weeks but all was ok. He is 7 now. With DS2 I had bleeding on and off from 9weeks to 22 weeks. I had many scans to check and a heavy bleed at 15weeks that they put down to a bit of the placenta coming away. All ok after that though and he is 4. It can all turn out fine. I really hope it does for you as well. Take it easy.

hippieshake · 26/01/2012 17:38

I had spotting at 6 weeks and again at 9 weeks. Went for a scan both times and it was such a relief to see the baby wriggling around.

Now 22 weeks with a baby girl, and I'm slowly starting to stop worrying and enjoy being pregnant x

jellyspoon · 26/01/2012 17:41

Thanks for the reassurance. I keep worrying that maybe i'm not even pregnant. I just hate waiting to find out. But I suppose no news is good news x

I've had spotting in all 3 of my pregnancies.

With dd it started at 5 weeks and continued until 12 weeks. Sometimes it was fresh, red blood, mostly it was brown. Scans at 5 weeks and 8 weeks were fine and I was diagnosed with cervical erosion.
She's 4 next month Smile

Last year I had what looked like a show at 11 weeks, it was mucousy and orange. A scan the next day revealed a mmc Sad

I'm now coming up to 9 weeks. I had spotting again from 5 weeks. A scan at 6+ weeks showed an embryo complete with hb. Next to the sac is what the sonographer described as a 'bruise' that sometimes develops as the placenta does.

So I've had good outcomes and a bad one, but your experience sounds more like my positive stories Smile. Can they fit you in for a scan once you get to 6 weeks, when they might be able to see something?

Good luck and keep us posted x

goingmadtrying · 26/01/2012 17:44

i have had spotting throughout this pregnancy from 6 weeks and now 12+4, have had a number of scans and no reason found, mine is mainly when i go to the loo and wipe then nothing else Hmm

good luck if you have anymore see if gp will refer you to epu??

jellyspoon · 26/01/2012 17:47

I have been told I have an ectropion before thats like a cervical erosion but nurse said it won't be that.
I phoned the early pregnancy unit and have a scan next thursday but had to fib about dates by a few days. Just hope won't be too early to see anything.

AmandinePoulain · 26/01/2012 17:49

I can't see why it wouldn't be your cervical erosion - pregnancy hormones can aggravate it, as happened to me. Has she examined you to rule it out? Confused

MandaHugNKiss · 26/01/2012 17:50

I had lots of bleeds with DS1 (and a few with DS2, actually) starting around 8 weeks and as the pregnancy progressed would end up admitted each time. Turned out I had placenta previa with those two babies (thankfully resolved by 36 and 34 weeks respectively) which can be a 'reason'.

As can cervical erosion/increased blood supply to your cervix (sex likely to set it off).

As can 'we just don't know why you're bleeding, but everything is fine!'

Of course, there are no guarantees and unfortunately only time will tell. But even with a previous loss the odds are very much on your side to be ok.

And the doctors advice to take to your bed is a little old fashioned - it's generally accepted that if you're going to miscarry this early it's because of a reasoon that bedrest will not help - but if it makes you feel mentally better to put your feet up and rest then do so! If however you're someone who 'copes' better by staying busy or carrying on as normal then that's fine too.

The spotting not getting worse and symptoms continuing/getting stronger would be an encouraging sign. I'm guessing you're not badly cramping/in pain?

Lots of good luck - I hope everything works out just fine for you.

HollyPockett · 26/01/2012 17:52

I had a massive bleed and passed a huge clot (sorry if TMI) when I was 9 weeks. Had a scan and all was well. The Diva (as we call her) is now still thriving and I'm now 29 weeks. Try not to worry too much (impossible i know) but it's not always the worst

AmandinePoulain · 26/01/2012 17:53

jellyspoon · 26/01/2012 18:01

Thanks everyone, the nurse hasn't examined me, we haven't had intercourse so she said it won't be that.
I have had some cramps like dull aches and lower back pain, not sure whats normal though, you would think I would after being pregnant 4 times. X

I had bleeding at 5 weeks with DC1 (he's 6 now) and 9 weeks with DC2 (she's nearly 5). Scanned both times and their little hbs were fine (was internal scan with DC1 as so early but could still see he was fine).

I don't know if it makes it better or worse, but I was advised that nothing I did or didn't do would make a difference in the very early weeks.

Have my fingers crossed for you and will be thinking of you xx

jellyspoon · 26/01/2012 18:06

I think resting is working for me at the moment, not had any bleeding since rested. I think what will be will happen either way, its just making me feel like I am doing everything I am to give it a chance.

Hey jelly I think we're in the same boat. Tiny bit of spotting this a.m. Then nothing at all when I went to the loo at 1. Then at 4.30 a smear of blood. Then nothing when I went at 6.30.
Rang Epu who were amazing; scan next Friday am. Good luck - thinking of you xx

jellyspoon · 26/01/2012 19:34

Good luck to you too holls how far along are you? Fingers crossed for us both x

Not entirely sure as don't have periods but think 6+6 x

blacktreaclecat · 27/01/2012 07:50

I had brown from before bfp (ivf) until about 9w. I had proper full on red bleeds at 6w x2 and red spotting at 10w. I was signed off work for 3 weeks at 7 weeks and did just rest really.
17weeks today all ok xx

jellyspoon · 27/01/2012 07:55

Thanks blacktreacle, I think its just a case of my not knowing how a successful pregnancy should feel, had 2 miscarriages and have 5 yr ds . I just know it feels different from last pregnancy which I think is a good think x congratulates on your pregnancy.

Going through this myself too. Currently nearly 8 weeks with DC2. Blood in discharge started a fortnight ago but trying not to worry as had exactly the same when pg with DD from six weeks - 12 weeks and was the result of cervical erosion.

With DD I had a scan at 6.5 weeks at the Emergency Gynae Unit as I was terrified I was losing her, then another at 10 weeks as also had abdominal / pelvic pain combined with the blood in discharge. All was fine so this time I'm just resting as much as I can (not easy with very active toddler) as it doesn't happen as much if I rest.

Unless I have pain and bleeding at the same time I'm going to stay clear of the Emergency Gynae Unit this pg as although any bleeding is worrying, I know that it is due to my cervical erosion (was warned to expect this in any future pregnancies) so not something I need to have checked out. I will, however, mention it to the midwife when I go for my booking in appointment in a fortnight as she's based at the hospital so can go straight from her to Emergency Gynae if she thinks it is necessary.

Try to take it easy as much as you can, and if you are getting really anxious see if there's an Emergency Gynae Unit somewhere near you rather than an EPU as they should allow you to "walk-in" and will check you out / give you a scan there and then, just like A&E but for Gynae issues.

jellyspoon · 27/01/2012 10:15

Thanks again. I am booked for an early scan next week just worried that they won't be able to see anything because its too early, or if they do a internal scan I am worried it will set the bleeding off again. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences it gives me some hope x
