My hospital has this new birth centre which is supposed to be more home like.

I was watching their introduction video and they said mother's are kept there only 3-6 hours after that they can go home if all is ok.

I was wondering if this is the normal length of time?

If interested you can see their video from here www.gwh.nhs.uk/wards-and-services-a-z/a-to-z/maternity-services/where-should-i-have-my-baby/white-horse-birth-centre/

My local birth centre offers 3- 12 hr discharge. I think it depends not only on your labour and any other needs for observation, but also on how busy they are if you want to stay in the room.
They did make it clear to me that I could request to stay in
longer eg for support with bf but that would involve a transfer to the postnatal ward so being kicked out of the birth centre.

I stayed 2 nights when my first DC was born as we had trouble establishing feeding. Despite being a first time mum with no experiance of babies, I was given the option of a same discharge (with hindsight this would probably been the better option) but didn't feel confident enough to take them up on it.

Second time around i gave birth at 10.40am and was home by 6.30pm the same day. It would have been quicker but we had to wait for a pediatrician to become available to do all the checks.

Depends what time of day baby is born. If post mid afternoon/evening/night chances are there won't be a doctor who does the initial health check to approve discharge. Means waiting until the next day.

My second dc was born at 1.30am and i got out at 1pm after all the checks were done!

i had baby at 1130 was home for tea time before 4!!! very quick straight forward birth, my ds then was admitted 2 days after with suspected meningitis and now feel we should have stayed longer, will be pushing for as long as possible this time before:)

I gave birth at 9am and was out around lunchtime the next day - this was 7 years ago though, and I'd had forceps delivery.

My hospital has a new birthing centre for straight forward births and they aim to get you out within 2-4 hours so long as baby has fed and you've had a wee. the only exception to this is if its middle of the night where they'd prob transfer you to ward

I stayed in my local MLU for 3 nights with DS1 and two with DS2.
Probably won't stay in with DC3 if they are born in the morning like DS's as will want to go home and see them, also was too hyped etc to sleep so may as well have been awake in my own (comfy) bed! Was nice with DS1 tho as I didn't know what the feck to do!

My dd was born at 1 am and we were packed up and ready to go at 8 am. I am hoping it will be the same with this one.
