Cramps and back pain in early pregnancy?

Hello All,

I am 5 weeks pregnant, so very early days, and have been experiencing strange transient cramps since before I found out I was pregnant (last week).

They are like a very dull version of a period cramp and seem to come and go all through the day and night - sometimes they are painful but most of the time it is just an annoyingly dull ache. The weird thing is that, particularly at night, they seem to travel down my whole body, starting in my abdomen and travelling through my hips, down the front of my thighs and into my calves. It is really strange! That, and the small of my back is killing me.

I just wondered if anyone else had similar symptoms during the early weeks of pregnancy? Or any other symptoms that aren't on the usual lists...

:)

I think the cramps and back pain are normal for your stage of pregnancy, I suffered from it, my assumption is that it's basically the uterus cramping and being irritated from the implantation, increased blood flow etc. The transference down your legs might be nerve related - sciatic pain can be like that and if you've got sore lower back that nerve might be being irritated.

You can take a paracetamol if it's too hard to bear, although I'd just put up with it if possible. Maybe try some gentle stretches in the evening before bed or try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs or on back with a pillow under knees to ease some tension in hips/lower back.

Good luck.

Hi I think i'm around 5 weeks too. I'm feeling the same. The pain in my lower back goes down the back of my legs and finding it really hard to sleep.
Good luck with everything x
