Has anyone had an early scan at 6+6? I am
Wondering if it will involve transvaginal scanning and what we will actually be able to see?

I have booked in for a private scan and accidentally booked the day before in 7 weeks. 7 weeks being the earliest they will perform an early scan.

I'm hoping 1 day won't make a difference!

Its dc2 If that changes anything.

I had an early scan with my third child following two m/c's. It was transvaginal (if that is the proper term for the probe!) and all we could see was a tiny heartbeat. It was NHS and very quick, but just let us know it was all still in there.... Why would you have a private scan at this stage? Is there something you are hoping to check for?

Hope it all goes well for you and scrap of bump...

I had one with the NHS at 6+5. She could just make out the fetal pole and a heartbeat via a normal abdo scan. She was just having a final go before switching to a vaginal scan. Phew!

It was very reassuring to see a little flickering heartbeat. But the overall experience was very brief! Mine was because I was experiencing bad cramps, and therefore on the NHS. I'm glad I hadn't paid for it to be honest!! And I was still just as nervous at the 12w scan.

I had a bleed last week. And while I'm still testing positive and have symptoms I want to know if the pregnancy is definitely viable. Epu don't want to know and I can't face waiting until 12 weeks to know.

Probably being very silly but it's a small price to pay I think for piece of mind.

Do you mind me asking how many weeks you were at your scan?

I would reschedule to 7 weeks + (ideally nearing 8 weeks) so you can be sure to expect a heartbeat. Imagine they don't see a heartbeat just because it is a few days too early.

Good luck!

I had one at about 7 weeks after blood loss. It was transvaginal. My DD looked like a tiny snowman and I heard and saw a heartbeat. By far my favourite scan Smile.

I had one at about 6 weeks, you could see the heartbeat on a normal scan, but the sonographer wanted to do a vaginal one too so she could get a better measurement and see things more clearly- I was having the scan due to bleeding/cramps.

If you have a scan at around 6 weeks and you are out by a few days then it could be too early and that could cause unnecessary stress as it is borderline as to whether you will see a heartbeat. 6 weeks 6 days should be ok as there is a good window to take into account being out by a few days e.g. from late implantation.

I had one at 5+6 and we saw a little heartbeat, flicking like a cursor! That was a TV one. Amazing!

I had two miscarriages and so had an early reassurance scan at 6 (odd) weeks on the NHS. It was transvaginal and the staff were fantastic, but it was far from reassuring as there was an active bleed which obscured the embryo. So of course I thought the worst. They booked me in for another scan a week later (the longest week of my life), and there was a heartbeat etc! Again, the staff were brilliant, marked the bub down as viable and referred me to the usual maternity channels. I did splash out on a private scan at 10 weeks to make sure all was okay, and that was my favourite scan, with the baby waving her little arms around happily. I'm now 40+2 weeks and am looking forward to meeting her! Good luck OP.

I had one at 6+4 on the NHS. It was abdominal. Since they could see the bean and the heartbeat there was no need to do a transvaginal.

I had one at 5+6 and saw heartbeat. That was done as a tummy scan I think it all depends on the person. I've heard friends have had scans around 6weeks and had I
nternal scan.
