maternity clothes where to buy

I am struggling to find maternity clothes particularly for work, on a budget and for to fit my slim build. I am normally a size 6-8 and most places seem to start from a size 10. Any ideas?

Have you tried New Look?

Joygirl78 · 23/01/2012 21:43

Isabella oliver and seraphine, both online, I think do size 8. They are pricey, but have sales on (up to 60% off) currently so be quick.
H&M is great for much cheaper stuff and also top shop maternity

Suri Ajuni (size 8) www.suriajuni.com/

George at Asda (size 8) direct.asda.com/george/womens/maternity-clothes/D1M1G20C19,default,sc.html

HM (size 8) www.hm.com/gb/subdepartment/LADIES?N=4294963800

Red Herring (size 8) www.debenhams.com/women/maternity-clothing

Dorothy Perkins (some size 6) www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogNavigationSearchResultCmd?pageSize=20&catalogId=33053&viewAllFlag=false&langId=-1&categoryId=208668&storeId=12552&parent_categoryId=208600&sort_field=Newness

Next (size 8) www.next.co.uk/shop/category-jeans-category-leggings-productaffiliation-motherandbaby-gender-women-0

All of the above are reasonably priced and New Look also good as McPhee suggested.

Depending on how big your bump is you may find using a bump band will get some extra mileage out of your regular clothes too.

eBay-you can get some complete bargains if you keep looking

H & M have a nice spring range. I bought a few things this week - I'm now 34 weeks so didn't want to spent a heap of money as I'll only get a few weeks wear out of them. Be warned though - i found that the sizes are very small.

sharond101 · 27/01/2012 22:37

Well the skirt I ordered online will be going straight back. It's almost to my ankles and is a jersey material which is so clingy and unflattering it made me almost cry. Did H&M have any workwear. Tried Matalan today but everything was too large.

I had the same problem when pregnant with dd (now expecting dc2). I found Next very good, as they do a size 6, and also Gap, for jeans & casual stuff. Don't think I'll need to get much extra this time, but did get a fantastic pair of trousers in Gap the other day, for work. They're smart, black ones, with a stretchy waist bit, and the size 0 fits me really well, I think they're called the 'perfect trouser' or something. They also come in grey. I think they'll be my staple work wear from now on, with a selection of tops (only work pt, so think I can get away with it!).

H&M also good for casual stuff, and very reasonably priced.

rrrayray · 28/01/2012 08:23

Try Asos and Topshop both do a 6 in some styles.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 28/01/2012 08:36

I've got some really useful bits from Gap, and their sizes go down to US size zero (UK 4). I have found the sizes for bottom halves to be on the generous side. The black skirt you can see on their web site is waaaay nicer than it looks there, I'm wearing that to work a lot.

kickingking · 28/01/2012 08:45

New look and Gap do an 8, I think new look does a 6 in some maternity clothes. Next do a 6 and 8, but are quite big irrc.

Be warned though - I'm normally a 6/8 and bought all my first maternity clothes in an 8. My bump far outgrew them by the end! Small people do not always have small bumps! This time I have bought 10s where I can get away with it, knowing they will last me longer.

rarebreed · 28/01/2012 08:50

H&M maternity trousers/jeans have waist adjusters inside the waistband so you can make them smaller, H&M seem to come up quite small anyway in my experience.

BikeRunSki · 28/01/2012 09:03

I am not sure what size they start at, but Jojomamanbebe do excellent maternity workwear.

eBay or an NCT sale - best options, and cheapest!
