I am fortunate not to have terrible morning sickness but I do feel nauseous a lot of the time, and at 7wks pregnant there has been a complete change in the foods that I like/feel able to eat. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? For me, I'm not interested in tea, coffee, breakfast cereal, most vegetables, yoghurt, apples, alcohol (quite handy and very unexpected). I have been living off crumpets (plain or jam/marmite), cheese sandwiches (toasted or on baguette), toast, baked potato, ice lollies, chips. Really not an ideal diet I know. Is anyone else having a similar experience? Any advice?

I went off pretty much everything for the first trimester.

And was still off most of it for the second trimester.

Even now in the third trimester some stuff I normally love makes me feel a bit just thinking about it.

As long as you're eating then don't worry - if you can face something with any nutritional value then eat it, and if not then eat what you can face. Your baby will get all of the vitamins and minerals from what is already in your body.

I couldn't face anything in a tomatoey sauce or anything milky, so lasagne was my nightmare food from hell. Green vegetables made me want to spew and some fruit did too, but I can't remember what.

I lived on toast for one week. White toast with loooooooads of butter, as close to NHS toast as I could manage. And Doritos. And Haribo. It was fabulous dreadful.

And I wonder why, at 22 weeks, I am out of normal undies and into my Big Mama Pants.

HeHe, thanks for your replies, makes me feel a bit better. It's annoying as I was really healthy before becoming pregnant and now, at a time when I should be making an effort, all of a sudden I can only manage rubbish food. I'm glad it hopefully won't have too much of a negative effect on the baby (?embryo).
openerofjars, am definitely with you on the lasagne front. We have 1/2 a cannelloni in the fridge. I really need to get DH to eat it/throw it away as the thought of it is making my time in the kitchen quite unpleasant. Reckon I'll have to upgrade to some big pants fairly early too :-)

Yup, I had a severe general food aversion (could ONLY stomach fruit or cereal) in the first trimester. A moderate food aversion in the second trimester (toast and plain sandwiches added to list) and now, finally, in the third trimester I have a, well, food aversion. I keep trying, but most things apart from fruit, cereal or toast makes me feel nauseous, so I can only eat a few mouthfuls.

To be fair I was extremely pukey at first and continue to be sometimes, so I think I may in part be convincing myself that Food Is Bad. Midwife said it wasn't a problem....

I went off spicy food, but that's all. Haven't had any strange cravings/ aversions so far.

I'm 8+5, totally gone off tea and coffee.. oh and anything I can smell being fried.. particularly after my DH decided to fry eggs in sesame oil at the weekend. Also not a great fan of sweet stuff (wasn't much of a sweet eater before). Like you not actually been sick but v. nauseous at times but has been a bit better over past week

PoppyS34 · 23/01/2012 21:26

Snap! you just pretty much read out my diet for the last 6 weeks. :o Marmite on toast/crumpets has been my saviour. I've not been sick, but have nausea which puts me off food. Also add porridge, mini cheddars and Twiglets to that list :) and granny smith apples.

No advice, except eat whatever you can. It's been a real struggle to find stuff I want to eat - not like me at all - but I did take a tip of someone else though - and added carrot and cucumber sticks to some meals and tried to eat that too.

I've also been trying to drink milk to make up for lack of food.

Congrats and good luck

I went off chocolate in my first trimester with DS. I made up for this in my second trimester however...

holls2000 · 23/01/2012 21:33

I've not gone off anything really but my taste buds seem to be changing - started choc crispie cake at work today and really didn't like it one bit (most unusual). Similarly my previous addiction to bread has taken a hike. Really if it wasn't for my tummy rumbling, I'd probably not fancy eating!

voscar · 23/01/2012 22:11

Pretty much the same as you! Anything carbohydrate based is good! Anything that resembles a healthy meal or vitamins gives me the boak. I know it's not ideal but I figure it will pass!

openerofjars · 24/01/2012 09:37

saltyair, as I understand it, the baby takes first pick and anything left over is for your body, so don't worry if the MW says it is fine. That's why there is an old wives' saying that you lose a tooth for every baby - bollocks, i lost one to Haribo when i was 23 but not a one since! - because historically, when women were at the bottom of the pile for nutrition (i.e. wage earner first, then children, then mum), their calcium levels plummeted.

MrsLister · 24/01/2012 09:55

My tastes have definitely changed - I can't abide the thought of curry, anything too rich (super buttery mash makes me gag) or anything too creamy.

I seem to have developed a taste for cups of tea (never normally drink tea/coffee) and crumpets with vegemite and peanut butter.

Although to be fair I have ALWAYS loved crumpets with vegemite and peanut butter ;)

Lottie83 · 24/01/2012 21:51

I have completely gone off tea and chocolate since I found out I was pregnant.

I usually love sweet things but now only want savoury.

Find it tough at work as to stop feeling nauseous I end up eating all day!!! Luckily no one has really noticed that much :-)
