40+5 weeks today and everyone else is giving birth on the January thread!

I have bad SPD/SI pain, an 18 month old to look after, a stinking cold and cough and am just feeling very emotional and hormonal. Today isn't even a good day to have a baby as DP is over an hour away with work and SIL (DD's carer) is in Ireland! Have tried all the usual remedies to try and kickstart things but absolutely nothing is happening. Been getting twinges and BHs for weeks now but they stop after a few hours. My DD was born at 37+5 weeks after a 4 hour labour so I'm not used to this waiting game. I'm in agony and really need to have this baby.

Lovely mumsnetters keep sending me your labour vibes.

pmsl at nipple twiddling was thinking of getting the breastpump out tonight actually

In answer to all the questions/recommendations:

  • have been taking 6 raspberry leaf tablets a day since 35 weeks
  • have been massaging bump and reflexology pressure points with clary sage oil for 2 weeks
  • have had loads of sex!
  • had a sweep yesterday
  • have tried pineapple and hot curry
  • have also eaten large packet of apricots and grapes to give me the runs (always works
  • have tried walking but am limited because of the SPD

Ahve stinking cold/cough and have the lovely effect of v weak bladder control when I cough, also coughed myself sick today which was lovely.

And everyone after me on the January thread are having babies!!

oh poor you, have you got a gym ball you can bounce and rock on? or perhaps a rocking chair to rock on every time you sit down. anything that gets the baby bouncing its head on your cervix. maybe ask your dh to do a membrane sweep all he has to do is stick his fingers up there, feel through the gap where the baby is and move it clockwise. if he keeps doing it every hour or so surely it's bound to kick start labour. don't know whether mw would aprove though.

sweetkitty · 21/01/2006 21:51

kreamkrackers - am bouncing on my gym ball right now whilst on the pc

dunno about DP poking about up there, think I will try nipple tweaking first lol

my friend's midwife told her that erm swallowing semen was more effective for kick starting labour than sex!

sweetkitty · 21/01/2006 21:55

mummytosteven - have tried the oral prostaglandin route too, think a man made that one up though!

Not heard of that one

sweetkitty · 22/01/2006 11:54

Still nothing to report this babies going to be coming out in her school uniform at this rate.

Am feeling really ill though so maybe it's a good thing she's staying put for now.

she doesn't want to catch your cold

sweetkitty · 22/01/2006 18:10

Have got sinusitis, headache, been sick, no appetite, temperature etc phoned MW she said take paracetamol every 6 hours and as long as babies moving everythings ok. I was just worried about her if my temperature was high.

Maybe she's scared to come out as her Mum looks so rough!

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2006 18:48

Am a bit worried about temp cos one of my friends had an infection and had temperature that went to baby

Have you had a show, was it ok?

Have you any discharge?

Coathanger · 22/01/2006 19:27

How you doing SK? Anything this evening?

If you have a cold, it might be natures way of waiting til you are well enough to go through the birth (not much help I know but might the reason). A good friend of mine had flu during her last weels of her PG and she didn't start until she was feeling a lot better. It might be a blessing in disguise (and when I say disguise I mean a very heavy one!!)

Have you tried standing and leaning on something waist height, placing your feet about a foot to a foot and a half apart, and rocking your hips from side to side. It might help open up your pevis.

I'm trying hard to think of things that might work...

(thinking of you as I've been in your position twice - ended up in 2 inductions at 12 days overdue )

sweetkitty · 22/01/2006 21:11

hi nothing happening this evening I'm afraid.

Feeling really rotten tonight your right coathanger I haven't really got the energy to have a baby today, tried to eat something a while ago for the baby. Will keep up with the paracetamol and hope it keeps my temperature down. I have tried literally everything now coathanger giving up if she comes she comes, will be induced soon anyway whatever happens.

Haven't had a show and discharge is normal.

oke doke

hopefully tomorrow

bubblerock · 22/01/2006 21:16

SK, I was watching friends earlier and thought of you - Rachel was overdue and had tried everything except sex, trying to get Ross to have sex with her she says something along the lines of.. "think of me as a bottle of ketchup you need to bang it a couple of times to get the stuff out"

Hope things kick off soon for you x

cece · 22/01/2006 21:18

Poor you, both of mine born at 42 weeks....

dd was induced at 42 weeks and then took 2 days to come out...

ds brought on labour naturally by eating a whole fresh pineapple - hour and half later had first contraction.....

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2006 21:19

I thought aboput SK while watching that TOO

hunkermunker · 22/01/2006 21:27

SK, an acupressure point you can try is between your thumb and forefinger - stretch your hand out and squeeze the muscle there. I realise I'm not explaining this very well - I hope you understand what I mean!

I did this the day before I had DS2 (and a bit of the old natural prostaglandin too, but that hadn't worked up till then, so am sure the massage helped!).

Really thinking of you - was SO sure you'd beat me! Am sure that your body is just not letting you go into labour until you feel a bit better though - which I hope will be tomorrow morning, first thing. Will keep checking MN for news!

Lots of straightforward labour vibes too x x x x x

FrannytheQuinoaEater · 22/01/2006 21:29

Hijack over, sorry

hunkermunker · 22/01/2006 21:29

Eh?! Nooo! [puzzled]

FrannytheQuinoaEater · 22/01/2006 21:30

And sweetkitty I am doing my special labour-inducing wiggle for you right now...

FrannytheQuinoaEater · 22/01/2006 21:30

Heh, heh, will bump for you, hunker.

Frizbetheexpansionset · 22/01/2006 21:31

Oh SK! keep your chin up hon, your too poorly to be in labour today anyway by the sound of things, fingers x'd for tomorrow for you hon {{{Hugs}}}

sweetkitty · 23/01/2006 09:33

Well nothing overnight which is just as well as had a really rotten night, haven't slept much and feel so bad this morning, am waiting on the doctor coming out too, usually I avoid doctors like the plague and hate taking antibiotics but I think I need to have some to clear this infection and get me eating/sleeping again for the babies sake.

Hunker - I even tried a bit of natures prostaglandins after my sweep on Friday and still nothing! Thanks for the acupressure points, have been doing my reflexology points too, one good thing now though is I can't smell the clary sage oil anymore.

Flamesparrow · 23/01/2006 10:03

Anyone else concerned about what Franny's labour inducing wiggle involves???

I'm sending sooo many pushy outy thoughts to you.

sunshinebaby · 23/01/2006 10:20

My baby was 9 days overdue (on a saturday) when I met this woman in a shop who told me I should try reflexology instead of being induced! So I booked a session on the monday morning (10 am) and by 16h00 (hooooooray), I finally got my first contraction. I have to say that the day before the reflexology, my midwife told me that my baby wasn't down enough so inducing me might not work and I should get myself ready for maybe a caeserian. My midwife couldn't beleive it when we called her on the tuesday morning to tell her that I was getting strong contractions!!!! She than cancelled my inducing appointment(due tuesday afternoon!) and my baby came naturally on the tuesday evening! So reflexology it is... and I did try before that, the walking, green tea, spicy food and sex...none of those did work for me!
