40+5 weeks today and everyone else is giving birth on the January thread!

I have bad SPD/SI pain, an 18 month old to look after, a stinking cold and cough and am just feeling very emotional and hormonal. Today isn't even a good day to have a baby as DP is over an hour away with work and SIL (DD's carer) is in Ireland! Have tried all the usual remedies to try and kickstart things but absolutely nothing is happening. Been getting twinges and BHs for weeks now but they stop after a few hours. My DD was born at 37+5 weeks after a 4 hour labour so I'm not used to this waiting game. I'm in agony and really need to have this baby.

Lovely mumsnetters keep sending me your labour vibes.

I'm sure I will be Miaou DD1 is a great baby just hoping her sister is a bit like her.

hotmama - 1-2cm is normal in someone who has had a baby before so not that excited about it.

Barrelrider - I'm being taken in and given the pessaries next Wednesday. I'll be 11 days overdue then. So far they haven't/won't give me a sweep because I've had problems with too much amniotic fluid and they are worried about breaking my waters.

Sweetkitty - yes the waiting is pretty horrible. I just don't know what to do with my time thats constructive other than lounging and eating!

I went 10 days over with my DD so that still gives me hope that I won't make it to the induction next week!

Now I''m off to try some Lucozade! No idea why but as its been suggested then why not!
Anyhow, I'm getting bored of pineapple, raspberry leaf tea and sex!!!!

meid x

hotmama · 20/01/2006 13:12

SK - I didn't know that - I would be over the moon if I was that far dilated. So I won't put my hopes up if that happens to me.

sweetkitty · 20/01/2006 21:51

Well theres been another Mumsnet baby (of not 2) and they were due after me!!!! So I suppose I had better leave only joking who else would I moan to?

Had sweep (ouch and yuck) but nothing seems to be shifting this stubborn little madam.

Lucozade - best thing for labour!! I had a friend who was PG with me, but her baby was due a week after mine. She went on to have hers a week before, so I asked her her secret and she swore by Lucozaed - so I drank loads of the stuff and I went into labour just a day after my due date!! Not sure if it was really the Lucozade, but my other two kids have been inductions at 42 weeks! Maybe its the laxative effect

Good luck anyway, to all of you that are now due and overdue! xxx

sweetkitty · 20/01/2006 22:08

Tried a bottle yesterday maybe I need some more!

Coathanger - you have THREE kids?

Coathanger · 20/01/2006 22:10

yep! I do! 3 gorgeous boys - 6 yrs, 5 and 2!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/01/2006 22:21

At the risk of sounding patronising - you dont look old enough to have three, AND to have kept your figure too!

Long time no speak - am suffering Trev withdrawals....

Sorry for hijack SK!

Coathanger · 20/01/2006 22:26

Mmmmmmmmmm, Trevor.......................

Why thankyou, my lovely, but I can assure you I am old enough! I did have 2 very close together so saved time there! I am the grand age of 30 (well almost 31. Too "almost" for my liking really but hey ho!)

But honest, try Lucozade! At worst you will have loads of energy for the birth (and possibly an orange baby )

sweetkitty · 21/01/2006 07:34

Well after the sweep yesterday managed to have sex last night too but still nothing, am seriously fed up now, so feel like marching up to the hospital today demanding they get this baby out of me.

Going to try pineapple and lucozade today!!!

hi just clicked on this and read the top message. to get me to the hospital i went on a very long walk (well it felt very long with the bump at the time) and that started me off. so my advice is walk, walk, walk.

kreamkrackers · 21/01/2006 08:11

oh, somebody else told me to walk up and down stairs as much as your legs will let you but i never tried it.

cathyspam · 21/01/2006 08:46

also curry for dinner and raspberry leaf tea!

Coathanger · 21/01/2006 08:57

Raspberry leave tea doesn't induce labour, it just makes your contractions more efficient when you do go into labour. And you need to be taking it from quite a few weeks before your due date for it to work. I took it from the earliest point in could in my third pregnancy, and I still went over due and ended up being induced......but my labour was only 39 minutes so it definately worked!!!

I still say Lucozade

kreamkrackers · 21/01/2006 09:13

i was told to drink raspberry leaf tea from 28 weeks so i did. then found out later on not to drink it until 35 weeks. but dd didn't arrive until 39+1 anyways so not sure if it really does help. i drank lucazade in labour, gallons of it. don't know whether it helped but i couldn't sleep once dd was out, i had so much energy
oh and the best help in labour was towels soaked in really warm water on my back to ease the pain although they cool down quickly. i think i'm going to take a hot water bottle with me this time.

Wallace · 21/01/2006 09:32

Try twiddling your nipples

Honest! Brings on really strong Braxton Hicks which may kickstart labour

Beetroot · 21/01/2006 09:59

It will comewhen it is ready. Go to the cinema tonigh and plan a day out tomorrow. Get a babysitter fo r tomorrow night..and organise lunch on MOnday..keep busy.

I read both (yes both) of edwina Currys books while waiting for my 12 day late ds3 to arrive.

Meanoldmummy · 21/01/2006 10:05

the nipples thing really works....as does bouncing up and down really hard (I was so fat with DS2 I tried to "run" to bring on labour and ended up with mum and dh doubled up laughing...I couldn't get the "uplift" to actually run, so it looked exactly like a toad walking). Raspberry leaf tea is good, but you have to have GALLONS of it. I wouldn't recommend hot curry unless you are already used to eating it, you don't want to have diarrhoeah and indigestion when you go into labour I hated this bit, it seemed to go on for ever....it doesn't though!!!!!!!!!

Wallace · 21/01/2006 10:09

The nipples thing really does work - ds was 3 days early and dd was 2 days early.

I bet you sweetkitty is off twiddling right now

Meanoldmummy · 21/01/2006 10:20

maybe we should all twiddle in sympathy

Mumfun · 21/01/2006 12:21

SK

In sympathy - still nothing happening here either. DS started the equivalent of today so well dischuffed.

DOne all the stuff except the nipples - will have to try tonight.

I feel Ill be pg forever!!

Wallace · 21/01/2006 14:06

Now we've got mumfun twiddling too - good luck

I like the idea of having a mass mumsnet "twiddle" in sympathy We could even get our dhs to help!

barrelrider · 21/01/2006 20:38

Don't try nipple tweaking after 2 pints of Lucozade, I think I'm going to throw up!
