High baby heart rate

When the midwife listened to the baby's heart rate at our last appointment, she wasn't happy with it. She said it was too high (although I don't what too high was) and made me lie down and finally switch to my side until she was happy with the heart rate (about 140 ish bpm) after 3-4 listens.

Can anyone explain this? What does it mean if the baby's heart rate is too high? Why is important to have the heart rate go down? I didn't manage to get an explanation that I understood from her. I am 35 weeks.

My babies was between 140-160 at hospital last week and Midwives were happy as was fluctuating and not dipping too low Xx

too high can indicate foetal stress/distress, which may suggest that something isn't quite right - but if it normalised then everything should be fine.

Someone with more knowledge should be on soon to give more detailed info, I'm sure. Otherwise, google "foetal tachycardia"

I was on a monitor for several hours on Friday and FHR was between 130 and 160. Was on delivery suite at hospital and Mwives were v happy with baby. Said was very happy baby :-) so 140 doesn't sound like an issue to me.

Could it be something as simple as having to hurry to get to the appointment on time? I cycled to midwife appointments with DS1 and nearly got sent to the hospital for monitoring, but the rate was down by the end of the appointment so we just put it down to exercise.
