Palpitations

Has anyone else had palpitations in pregnancy?

This is pregnancy number 4, now 14w. I've never had palpitations in previous pregnancies. I've had the occasional 'flutter' in the last few weeks, but one evening this week they built up to being very uncomfortable. I was checked over in A&E and I am going to have a 7 day monitor as an outpatient.

They're less frequent now and just a strange flutter feeling in my chest and sometimes in my neck / throat. I wondered what other people's experiences were?

Yes, had them with ds1. I used to get them in the morning while driving the hour and a half commute to work(I also had bad morning sickness) they got worse over the weeks until they were almost causing panic attacks.I was signed off for 2weeks, lots of rest and they reduced until I only had them very occasionally and were nowhere near as bad.

Do u get the time to rest (obv with other dcs I know this is impossible difficult)

Thank you morecoffee

I do try and rest, but obv life can be very busy. I've got a fantastic husband who looks after me as well as he can but boys are rubbish and he creates more work

I wonder if the stress of waiting for my amnio is making it worse. And since having the bad evening, I think worrying about them getting bad again is making me more aware of them, then I worry about them, then it gets worse... going around in circles!

Think I might treat myself to a pregnancy massage - purely for medicinal purposes, of course Wink

Hi Suzy,

Yes I had these at around 18weeks if I remember rightly...DS3. They were also short flutterings mainly whilst chilling on the sofa!! Asked MW and she said it is quite common, possibly due to increased blood etc but to keep an eye on it and let them know if it carried on. I did have papitations prior to bubba tho so it didnt scare me that much as I knew what it was!!

Now 30weeks and no sign (touch wood!!).

I would stay deffo try and have a moment when you can relax!! When kids are in bed or at school...I like the massage idea too xx

I've had them too, but have also just found out my iron levels are low and that palpitations can be a symptom of this.

I had daily palpitations from 16 weeks until recently. They reduced a lot once I stopped rushing around & taking it easier. I was pretty breathless too & was told off for doing too much by the respiratory nurse Blush but it solved the problem.

Also discovered I was anaemic at 28 weeks & the iron supplements have helped too.

I have had them for about a month, am twenty weeks, they were terrible real thuds more than flutters. Told dr said stress. Had previous heart monitor as outpatient which was ok. But am also breathless. Have had bleeds and pain and waiting for anomaly scan so I know I am anxious but very scary. not as bad this week hope urs improve.

SoozyWoozy · 22/01/2012 20:01

They are annoying I know that much!!!

Been going on all day today, getting 2 - 3 flutters an hour, increasing now I am sitting down and thinking about it LOL!

If I had a decent GP I might go and get checked over, but they will just spread my label of anxiety a bit thinner - they seem to use that one for everything! Even if you're not anxious... Hmm

I might give the midwife a call in the week, she can chase up the bloods I had taken on tuesday morning. I know I am under stress while waiting for the amnio, but I'm nice and relaxed and feel fine atm but they are still fluttering away.

Thanks for the support :)
