I know this is a touchy subject but its been bugging me all week......saw Madwife on Monday, she asked how much weight I had gained so far, so I told her 6kg. She pulled a face, tutted and told me to be more careful what I ate....gestational diabetes....older mum etc etc etc. TBH she made me feel like shite - is around one stone total weight gain so massive?? I will be 34 weeks tomorrow, BP has been perfect, still exercising, still working full time, oh yes, and still 40!!

Only 6kg and you are 34 weeks. Huh???? Did she think you said 6 stone??? I have put on way more than that at 31 weeks. Admittedly am very tall so weight may be well spread, but I don't look any bigger than usual at all and have a very neat all out front (big) bump. I am pre preg size 12 and comfortably wearing size 12 mat wear plus some size 12 ordinary clothes.
Same as my first pregnancy and it all came off with breast feeding and buggy fit classes.

Bless you - my mw told me not to put any weight on and that wouldn't be terrible if I lost some. So I am now trying so hard to be good and eat mega healthily and lose weight while looking after The Bean.

Oeisha · 20/01/2012 22:13

No, your MW is a tactless bitch. Ignore her. You're still good and active and aren't showing any other signs of GD I assume, so you carry on doing what you are doing. If she was that worried she should have weighed you herself and referred you on.

ahhhhhpushit · 20/01/2012 22:33

Huh? I put on 5 stone! My MW never raised an eyebrow!

feekerry · 20/01/2012 22:37

I thought 7kg was the minimum weight gain aimed for in pregnancy as I lost lots of weight at first due to hyperemesis and they said as long as I gained about 7kg that would be the min expected weight gain at full term. . . . I've actually gained double that. . Ha ha ha. I dont think 6kg weight gain is anywhere near excess!

McPhee · 20/01/2012 22:41

I'm 16 weeks and dread to think what I way now [blush[ Grin

Actually, I couldn't give a rats arse either Grin

I put on 4stone and mw never said a word. Think you must have a nasty one. I stuffed my face while pregnant and enjoyed every second of it. Don't let her upset you. enjoy x

MiauMau · 20/01/2012 23:32

8kgs here and not one word about my weight, maybe she's blind as a bat and misunderstood you.

justhayley · 20/01/2012 23:42

I think she must have miss understood and took it as 6stone instead of kilos - doesn't make sense otherwise!

Ponyphysio · 21/01/2012 18:04

Thanks everyone, she's quite old, so maybe the whole kgs think just threw her completely. Vengance will be mine - she can piss off if she thinks she's getting chocs at the end - I'll take her a nice healthy wee apple instead!!

Around 1 stone at 34 weeks is very restrained IMO.

I'm 27 weeks and I've put on 11lb and if anything have worried its not enough.

AlpinePony · 21/01/2012 18:31

Your madwife is a NUTTER! ;) I'm 36 weeks and have put on 6kg, an effort as I'm overweight and hyperemesis. I'be clearly lost weight from the rest of my body and can fit in to some of my pre-maternity wear.

Cripes, I could put on 6kg in a week if I put the hours in. ;)

DeeBeee · 21/01/2012 20:58

6kg - is she joking?! I have put on 9kg's at 27 weeks, have eaten well and exercised and so I don't consider that to be excessive.
