'Bladder' pain but neg UTI test result

So confused... Currently 11+3. Before Christmas I was having awful bladder pain, felt like burning especially after I peed, also before/ when I needed to go to, but never actually felt any pain/ discomfort at the actual 'exit' ifkwim. Anyway, had urine tested with both midwife and gp with dipstick thing and gp also sent sample off to lab for further testing. Nothing came up. Before they got test results he prescribed antibiotics but then decided no point taking as no infection.

Anyway, the problem faded away for the last three weeks/ a month, but now is back, awful sharp burning pain when I pee (again in what I think is bladder area - not 'down below'), and the dull burning afterwards, and some quite bracing sharp, but still 'burning sharp' pains at what seem like random times of the day today.

I've also in the past week had a couple of twinges in lower back with has worried me even more because I've seen things about untreated UTIs and especially if it gets to kidneys being dangerous to baby, but is it possible to have a UTI if tests say not? Coming to the end of a truly terrifying first trimester (more because I've panicked rather than because anything's gone particularly wrong) I really don't want to take any risks!

Oh, and the reason I keep putting 'bladder' in inverted commas is that I want to ask do you think it could maybe be not bladder but in fact uterus? Can uterus can burning type feelings?!

i'm not sure if it's the same, but i thought I had a uti over xmas. every time i'd go to the loo, i'd get a really uncomfortable feeling in my bladder area, and some discomfort (but not burning pain, like you describe), like a really achey feeling. Tested at docs (neg), sent away for tests at hosp (also neg), doctor said it's probably the uterus expanding/stretching and making room once my bladder was empty again.

I've been drinking extra water/cranberry juice/barley water and making sure I go to the loo as soon as I need it, just to be on the safe side.

Although, if you have paid in your kidneys maybe you shoudl speak to MW? x

Over Christmas I had pain in my 'bladder' but neg UTI test. It didn't burn (just like poppy says) but it was very uncomfortable.

It turned out to be ligament pain from everything stretching. I'm 20+5 now and the stretching pains are easing off x

Thanks ladies, that's just what I was hoping to hear - that it could just be normal stretching type stuff. Thing is I have to admit I'mm not really quite sure of where my bladder vs uterus actually is (ridiculous, I know!) - i've basically got it in my head it's sort of 'pelvic bone- then bladder just above that - then uterus just above that'? Does that sound about right or completely off? Anyway, the pain's pretty low - around top of hairline.

Will do the drinking lots of water/ cranberry etc and see if it helps. As for kidney pain bit, again my anatomy knowledge isn't quite what it should be and I've had some pain higher up back last couple of days, so wondering if that was in fact just a standard issue back ache rather than anything more sinister...

Hi, I had this for the first few months of my first pregnancy. Took antibiotics, had numerous tests etc but in the end nothing could explain it and it went away although would sometimes crop up briefly in layer pregnancy. Completely went away post birth. Do you have a history of UTIs? I only ask because I did and thought this might be the cause, combined with maybe something about where the uterus was sitting in relation to my bladder?
I took cranberry tablets, drank lots of water, especially after peeing, and managed ok just about.
If you have clear tests and no flu like symptoms I would day it is unlikely to be a bacterial UTI.
I am now pregnant with DC2 and no sign, but if it came back I would do above again, only taking antibiotics if necessary.
Oops bit of an essay, hope all goes well and don't be scared of taking to your GP if you're worried. I was there a lot at one point!

It doesn't sound like kidney pain, kidneys are in the lower back Wink

hello definately recommend cranberry caps. the juice is full of sugar and will further inbalance your system. also some nice natural yoghurt can help (eat it)!!
