Soreness at top of bump - ow

Hi

I am 36/37 weeks (depending on which doctor I see) at the minute but 36 weeks based on my dates. Anyway just this morning I have a really sore, tender area at the top of my bump. It feels like a bruise if that description helps anyone to identify with it.

It hurts constantly - and when baby moves and hits off it it makes me suck in my breath.

Has anyone had anything like this - if so what was it? I have a hospital appt on Thursday so don't want to be going in all paranoid if it's just one of those things but it it's not..

Any ideas?

Hi, i had this a week ago. About an inch above my belly button. It felt really tender and bruised and even looked a bit bruised. It's gone now. I just put it down to stretching. I covered my bump in cream around the sore area and it's eased a bit. I think it may just be sort of a growth spurt?

I had this at 36 weeks and worked out the cause Blush - my bump has risen to the point where it was running on my bra meaning the skin was chaffing and feeling bruised. Using a sports bra (for the hoik) or soft tissue between bump and bra helped.

Don't know I this helps...

Thanks for the replies ladies.

Sandy there is no bruise evident (although give it time it will probably come up) but you might be right. I keep thinking there isn't any more room for baby and something like this comes along.

Topaz I'll definitely try the tissue between bump and bra thanks for the tip.

I had this just the other day I'm 35 weeks mine was on my left side at the top of my ribs was very uncomfortable but only lasted a few hours then went..
Seems like at this stage of pregnancy one pain goes and another one comes oh the joys it will all be worth it in the end!!

call the midwife, could be the liver protesting.

Hi and thanks for replies

The pain went around 5 - baby shifted and the pain went away so I am going to leave it for a while. It was a bit weird but if it happens again i'll call the doc and get them to check things out.

And Babybeann I know it will be so worth it but at the mo I would love for the pregnancy gods to smile on me and make the next 3/4 weeks go faster.Grin

Does it feel like the skin and muscles are ripping? Because that's what I'm getting about 2 or 3 inches above my belly button and to the right. I'm going to see the midwife tomorrow but, am curious about everyone else's input.

mousyMouse · 17/01/2012 10:57

that is where the liver is (on the right side just under the rib cage), make sure you mention it to the midwife.

MiauMau · 17/01/2012 11:00

Thank you mousyMouse, I will. Should have also mentioned that it is also DS's favourite kicking spot.

MiauMau · 18/01/2012 12:45

small update. I've seen the midwife and she has blamed both me and DS for the ache, DS for kicking it and me for getting up in the wrong way. I'm not very good at the rolling over to get up, feels like I'm going to fall on the floor!
