Back pain - any ideas?

I'm 33 weeks and for the last few weeks I've been suffering from back pain. But not the lower back pain I'd kind of expected, but a sharp, twinge-y like pain in my upper back on the left hand side, below the shoulder blade and between the ribs. It gets particularly bad sleeping on my side, but also sitting/standing. Can't seem to find any real pattern for what's setting it off. Has anyone had this/got any ideas on how to make it go away?
Thanks!

Hi Bella

I'm 30wks and have a similar back ache which tends to come on in the afternoon - and don't really know what triggered it (although it gets worse if I spend too much time in the car).
Things I've tried:
-warm bath (effective for me for ~12hrs)

  • pregnancy massage (effective for me for ~48hrs) and was v relaxing!
  • Most effective: on my knees draped over a maternity ball IYSWIM and helps v quickly for about 12hrs

I haven't been to the Dr's about it as I suspect they'll say it's just a pregnancy thing and to take some paracetamol and get over it...Angry.

Hope something on that list helps you!

I had upper back pain and went to a local Physio which helped a lot.
