Hi,

On Wednesday I lost about an eggcup full of bright red blood, didn't have any pains until I saw the blood and then got period type pains but that could be due to freaking out. I went to hospital and a scan showed the heartbeat looks fine and baby was active, also had an internal and my cervix was closed.

The bleeding has nearly stopped and it's only brown blood now so guessing it's old. I've been having some minor cramps but more uncomfortable than painful, and not regular. Heard the heartbeat again on Thursday and just trying to rest over the weekend (not easy with 2yr old DS!), but can't help worrying.

Has anyone else had this? Do you know if you can lose fluid with a closed cervix? I feel smaller and lower than before and there was a puddle under me after I was scanned (unless I really do sweat that much when I'm stressed).

Any stories/advice would make me feel loads better, can't help thinking the worst, especially as hormones don't seem to be as strong in this pregnancy as in my last.

I know that i was almost full term in my pregnancy when i started to leak clearish water, which i was soaking through maternity pads one every half hour!! I went to the hospital and was told everything was fine (they didnt think my waters had broken) and was told to go home. I gave birth almost 34hours later to a perfectly healthy baby boy. Bleeding in pregnancy i think is quite common, and the reason your hormones might seem less intense is because you have a distraction this time- your 2 year old DS. I hope everything works out for you. x

I was told by the nurse that it is normal for some people to have "period" bleeds during the pregnancy, when there period would have been. It could be that? ( I'm no medical expert and if the doctors are happy, then try not to worry!)

Hi lost - I had this at around 20 (I think) weeks. Red blood, cramps etc. I was terrified and thought it was game over. Everything was absolutely fine - I had my 20 week scan booked for a few days later and this showed no problems.
Was the puddle after you'd had the internal? If so it was probably just your normal cervical mucus that had been hauled out by the internal scan. I bet you only feel smaller and lower becasue you're looking for changes.
If the scan showed HB and active baby, that is really positive - it is so scary though, isn't it?
I hope you manage to relax.

Hi lostlenore,
I had a bleed at 20 weeks. Strangely I was in hopsital as my older ds1 had a virus and we had taken him in as it was out of hours. I went to the loo during the hugely long wait for my son to be seen and discovered very red blood. Not just spotting, but not gushing either. As I was in hospital anyway they sent me a long to the delivery ward where checked me, heart beat and internal and said everything was fine and it was an unexplained bleed. I went on to have dc2 who is asleep upstairs! However, I would add that every case is different and get checked out if you are AT ALL worried. After all, that is what midwifes are there for!! Hope all is well for you. x

Thank you for the replies, feeling calmer than I was but it's a bugger waiting for Monday to come around so I can make an appointment with the m/w!

I measured myself and I've lost three cm round my waist, but I did tend to feel bigger if I'd been to work or been on my feet all day and I've pretty much spent two days on the sofa...
