MW on OBYM...for real or acting for cameras?

So I'm sat here comparing my midwife to those on the ward on 'One born..'
Also, my friend called me today in tears after her MW was awful to her.
Are the midwives on OBYM that nice?? Or is it all for the cameras.....?
I'm 28 weeks pregnant, 8 months after DD and EMCS and was told I'd be monitored closer to have seen her three times!!! She's rubbish too....I've seen her once the other 2 were holiday covers....and she wrote NAD when she NEVER even tested my urine sample!

Most of the MWs I've met have been lovely (not on the TV either, genuinely nice) and only one in the two pregnancies has got my back up.

I think you and your friend have both been unlucky. If she's not carrying out tests properly or you don't want to see her again, write to the Supervisor of Midwives and complain.

Well can't speak for any of the midwives on obem, but I can honestly say that every midwife I ever saw in each of my 3 pregnancies was kind, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. In all 3 labours I had a midwife by my side at all times. I am fortunate to live in a rural area where I suspect demand on services would be at the elderly end of the spectrum and am well aware that my situation is unfortunately unusual. However it is entirely possible, IMO, that they are all just nice!

I've met some real stinkers in my time. Fliss's advice sounds good to me - unless you're in a tiny hospital and can't avoid her. Even then though you might be able to transfer to another hospital (I changed hospitals at 12 weeks, and they told me they took new referrals/transfers up to 34 weeks).

I'm fabulous.but I do occasionally take a holiday.

and seeing a MW 3 times at 28 weeks sounds quite standard.

All the MWs I have seen have been very nice, a couple of dodgy Nurses and registrars. I would rather have seen my MW three times by 28 weeks than the 8ish times I have clocked up at 31, means they are not too worried about you! You can always ask to see a different MW.

I can honestly say all iv seen have been really nice friendly and helpfull.
this is my 2nd and iv seen midwife twice and im 27 weeks have my 28 week appt next week that is standard for 2nd onwards. but I can call them or my hospital assesment ward at any time. xx

I had a baby 18 weeks ago. With the exception of a student midwife who was surly and downright wrong about a couple of things, my midwives were kind, supportive and in a couple of cases, made such an enormous difference to my experience that I wrote to them to thank them.

I've been through the wringer with hyperemesis and ante-natal depression and my midwife has been brilliant - the first HCP to take me seriously and get the ball rolling on treatment. She just listens and doesn't dismiss anything I say. Love her to bits.

I had my DD at LGI where OBEM is filmed and all the midwives were lovely. (Put up with a lot of my moaning and demands with good spirits anyway)!

I have seen 5 different midwives now, 2 in hospital and 3 of the community ones and all have been lovely. Not sure how competent as so far everything they had to do was simple standard stuff but their attitude and frienliness couldn't have been better.

AND I'm generally a pessimist and don't like people. So I guess, you've just been unlucky so far.
