bit gutted MW wouldn't check cervix for me

I had crampy period like pains Monday night then again yesterday morning was told it sounds like early labour and to keep an eye on it, stopped thro the day yesterday but by about 7pm started getting crampy pains again by 10pm was getting contractions every 15 mins this went on til 1am then suddenly stopped nothing since. I has by normal 38 wk app with MW today so explained to her she had a feel says babys head is in my pelvis and is ready to go it's just a waiting game, She said the pains will be doing and likely thining my cervix but no idea how long it could take to go into labour.

I asked if she could check my cervix to give me an idea if anythings happening and she refused just said it will happen when it happens, i know it wouldn't have guarenteed anything but would have gave me peace of mind to know what was / wasn't happening. I know no one can do anything but just wanted a moan was really upset last night when the pains stopped after hours :(

If it helps, I had a VE in early labour (I was having 3 in 10 mild contractions at the time) and in the aftermath I was in agony, the pains went from bad period pains, to being in my cervix, like a really uncomfortable smear, but worse, plus the cramps. I might have got a restful night if I hadn't had the exam, but I was too uncomfortable. There's also the infection risk.

I know it's hard, but try to distract yourself and rest while you can, things will kick off in no time. It's fine for things to be a bit stop start, it just means you are getting prepared, and the stops give you a break before the main event.

thank you i know i should be patient i'm only 38 weeks but my grandfathers ill with cancer and gets his results on 17th he's refusing treatment so unless theres some sort of miracle on the 17th we basically find out not if but when he will die :( Very selfish of me but desperate for baby to come before 17th as i dont want him born in the aftermath of terrible news :(
