Sickness the same/worse second time around?

Just wondered what people's experiences were of nausea/vomiting in second pregnancies? Worse? Better?
After being so nauseous 24hrs a day in first pregnancy it makes me hesitant about repeating the experience ...

About the same tbh (ie lots of being sick) but at least with the 2nd one I didn't get food poisoning the week after my morning sickness stopped :)

FrillyMilly · 11/01/2012 10:06

Worse with second but as I had hyperemesis I knew there was a good chance of this. Had it up to 12 weeks with first and had it until about 18 weeks with second. Ended up being hospitalised second time round too.

Damn it! Where is the flood of replies saying I won't suffer again?!!!

I didnt feel sick at all through my 1st pregnancy, however this one Ive felt sick for about 4 weeks so far begining to go a bit now which is much better.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 11/01/2012 10:58

Worse, but according to my Obs it's pretty random.

Some people never get any
Some people get it terribly every time
Some people get it for one and not the next
Some people dont get it for the first and then do for the second

There can be a difference depending on whether its a boy or a girl but mine are one of each so no difference for me.

danielou · 11/01/2012 11:43

1st had it terrible
2nd about the same
This pregnancy not so bad I am able to eat.

Pregnancies can be different. But doc did tell me this pregnancy will no doubt be same as last 2. Luckily its not to bad x

First pregnancy, no sickness. Second pregnancy felt sick as a dog from about 6-14 weeks.

puzzletree · 11/01/2012 11:51

I felt worse second time (all day nausea for first 4 months, no vomiting) but I don't think it helped having a one-year old to look after with all that mushy food flying about (bleugh!) and no chance to rest. Third time has felt about somewhere between the first two.

mumtorobbie · 11/01/2012 11:59

Fraid I'm another 'worse the second time around' brigade.

Didn't have much sickness at all with my DS a couple of years ago but this time it's been absolutely dreadful. I spent the whole of July and August in bed and the sickness just got worse and worse until I was at a stage when I had very little warning when I was actually going to vomit.

I wasn't surprised when I found out I was having a DD this time around.

My consultant said he finds that many women do suffer extreme MS when their second child is a girl (if they've had a son the first time around) and it's something to do with the level of oestrogen in the system.

In all honesty, if I'd been as sick with my DS I think we would've stuck at one child!

MUCH better, hardly sick at all with second. (First was hard).

Saw a naturopath and homeopath at start of pregnancy and all the advice/drops/supplements worked wonders.

Vitamin B (a supplement with all the components, not just the cheaper ones) helps a lot and generally ensuring you're getting all the nutrients you need.

Good luck!

insanityscratching · 11/01/2012 12:04

First time awful up until 20 weeks.(boy)
Second time worse but only up until 16 weeks.(boy)
Third time nothing at all Grin (girl)
Fourth time hyperemesis all the way through was still being sick in labour and only stopped once delivered.Envy(boy)
Fifth time pretty much the same as first.(girl)

AnaisB · 11/01/2012 12:05

It's been better so far. I'm worried that this is a bad sign - although currently 11 weeks and everything seems OK. I want my scan!

ArtyJennie · 11/01/2012 12:17

equally bad 2nd time so far :( I was sick all day until week 20 last time. This time (5 years later) its the same level of spew, i'm only at week 9.. its starting to get me down.

The sickness put me off having another lo the 1st time (hence the big gap) I think i'd forgotten how bad it could be :(
