Mastitis in pregnancy?

I've had a sore boob today and just took a look and there's a large-ish red area that is hard to the touch. Dr.Google suggests it could be mastitis. I've got a midwife appointment on Thursday so will talk to her then but has anyone else had it in pregnancy? Any self-help tips?

Do your bras fit you? Likely to be a blocked/inflamed duct rather than mastitis at this point. This can be caused by ill fitting bras in pregnancy, so I would get remeasured .etc
Can also just be a bit inflamed due to development of your breast tissue generally, how far along are you?

I agree with PurpleWithaBlueBun. Also, try taking a warm bath as the warm/hot water does help to relieve some paint. Are you lactating at the moment?

If you don't have a bathtub, you can try using hot water flannel to cover the sore bit and massage the redness. The 'soreness' will be reduced the next day as the heat and massage slowly unblock the tissues. Apparently savoy cabbage helps to relieve engorgement, you can try putting a leave of savoy cabbage on your breast (in between your breast and bra). Please note the smell of cabbage can be unbearable... for me at least!

hope you feel better soon. Biscuit

I have just got over a breast infection. It just appeared one evening. I developed a lump on my nipple, but then you could see the duct that was blocked/infected as it travelled up my breast. I was put on antibiotics. Try cabbage leaves for the pain. Then I was putting a warm flannel on it and gently massaging the area. Hope it helps and you feel better soon.

Thank you all for the tips and best wishes. I am thinking it's bra-related so off to get some new ones. I'm 28 weeks today.
I used a heat pack on it yesterday which seemed to help too as it does feel better today.
