Quick stretchmark related question at what point they appear I am 24weeks and 2 days and whilst I'm the size of a small family car I have yet to get any. In fact my bellybutton is starting to pop out.

Mine started to appear at about 38 weeks. Really thought I'd got away with it!!

Meglet · 10/01/2012 21:47

I didn't get any. My dc's arrived at 37 and 39 weeks. I was pretty big in the last few weeks.

I wonder if it runs in families, neither my mum or grandma got them. I used bio-oil and had lots of olive oil in my diet, was a sun worshipper too which is odd as I would have expected that to have ruined my skin.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/01/2012 21:50

kdiddy I bet that was not what you expected after getting to 38 weeks.

Meglet Lucky you I am dreading getting any I don't think my Mother and Grannny got any but not too sure.

I am 30 weeks and covered With them! My sister is 34 weeks and just starting to get them. I got stretch marks when I grew quickly as a teen also so think I am just prone to them.

WipsGlitter · 10/01/2012 22:00

I didn't get any I used loads of Clarins oil. My mum and sister have terrible ones.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/01/2012 22:03

36 weeks and none yet. Holding my breath!

LackingNicknameInspiration · 10/01/2012 22:22

I was expecting masses, as got loads when I was a teenager, and was therefore delighted when DD1 was born and I didn't have any. Was pleased that I'd used lots of oils and semi congratulating myself on avoiding them, when a number of very pale ones appeared shortly after the birth.... Angry.

DD2, they appeared somewhere around week 36 - but then, she was a bit of a whopper, so only to be expected.

I think you are either prone to them or not - I'd had them before so got them again - most of the people I know who didn't get them had never had them before either.

They're not too bad when they fade though - and it's highly unlikely I'll be getting any part of me out in polite society, so I don't really think about them too much!

I too managed to get to about 38 weeks then I bought a third tube of the cream id been using and it was much more watery than the previous 2 within days I had massive marks and ran out for some bio oil. By time he came out at 40+13 I had some proper angry marks but they are getting better even after 2 weeks.

MrsHuxtable · 10/01/2012 22:25

I got a few when putting on weight in my teenage years in my hip area. So that means they will def appear?

Lacking, after the birth? Now that's just mean...

sillymillyb · 10/01/2012 22:28

Im 29+4 and don't have any yet.... but Im not using any creams either. Should I be?! Is that the most naive question of the evening? I just get so bored by moisturising!

LackingNicknameInspiration · 10/01/2012 22:52

MrsH, I rather felt that too!
Especially as I had only just stopped expecting them!

molly3478 · 11/01/2012 14:25

I have had one dd and I am 29 weeks now and I have none at all. i have never had any stretchmarks loads of people dont get any at all.

molly3478 · 11/01/2012 14:27

I will add I have not put any cream on at all. I dont believe the cream, the diet or any of that works. Its just some people dont some do.

RockChick1984 · 11/01/2012 14:32

I got mine after the birth too, I was devastated!! I'd been checking under my bump with a mirror as I knew a few people who hadn't known they had got them (as they were out of sight) and was so proud of myself for being stretchmark free - they arrived a few days after the birth and I was gutted! On the plus side you could barely see them by the time DS was 6 months and they r totally gone now at 10 months unless you look really closely!
