Measuring large for due date?

Hi all,

I'm 30 wks and up til now every time my belly's been measured i've been told I'm exactly the size I should be, had an appointment at the hospital today and the dr told me I'm measuring big for my dates, and booked me for a scan on Monday.

Is this something to worry about? He did say it may be because I'm rather short (4'11), but if not, what could be the cause? If they'd got my dates wrong surely this would have shown earlier?

Thanks in advance,

S

MummySunshine try not to worry until you've had your scan, remember there could be many reasons why you're suddenly measuring larger and not all of them are necessarily that problematic. With my first I measured 'normal' and got to around 34 weeks where I suddenly started measuring large and a scan revealed it was due to a huge amount of amniotic fluid as well as a rather large and happy looking baby!

i was measuring 5 wks LFDs everyone got in a bit of a tizz about it they sent me for a scan, the sonographer was thoroughly narked and said since i was here she would do it but it wasnt policy to do scans for large for dates because it usually meant nothing and wouldnt change my treatment at all.
as it turns out she was right baby was spot on for dates. measuring bump is not necessarily a great way to gage baby.

I measured large with ds for the last few weeks and kept having scans. No idea why as everything was absolutely fine! Some people say that measuring is complete waste of time as everyone carries a baby differently and I'm inclined to agree. Ds was perfect and a very average 7lb 14oz - I just had a huge bump!

My bump is measuring ok, but I had an extra scan today at 33+3 and have been warned its going to be big! Both head and belly are above average-as in off the chart big! Current estimated weight is 6lbs 4 so I'm preparing for a huge baby by full term if it keeps growing quickly.

Docs say that big is good as its healthier - its just us that worry when they're big because we're the ones that have to push it out!!
