Stinging, painful skin over bump sometimes - no one can tell me why. Advice?

From time to time (and particulary evenings, especially weekend evenings) I have been getting painful patches of skin over my bump. Sometimes to the side, sometimes across the middle just above my belly button. The skin is kind of painful and stinging and tight. It usually lasts for a few hours and eases off if I sit down or bend over.
The NCT lady said it was Braxton Hicks but the MW said it wasn't because BHs aren't painful and don't last more than a few minutes. MW said she didn't know what it was but to rest more at the weekends to see if that helped. If not I should call the delivery suite when it next happened.
Now I don't know what to think. Is it something and nothing? Should I push to see the medical team? Has anyone else had similar and found a diagnosis?
Thanks :)
