Hi,

Just trying to find some mums to be chums in the West Yorkshire area? I live in Wakefield I'm 13 weeks pg with my first baby and hoping to find someone to chat with. I will be having the baby at Pinderfields has anyone had or going to have a baby here? Would love to know your thoughts :)

Hi, wow your very far on, how are you feeling? You must let me know how things go, I was in Pinderfields yesterday for my first scan, I was quite impressed with the parking, the hospital and everything it seemed really clean and staff were nice. I was starting to worry as a colleague said do not have a baby there as staff were terrible.

I was there too yesterday morning in the antenatal day unit as i've just started to suffer with high blood pressure at 36 weeks, and i've been an in patient on the maternity ward upstairs (also bp related.) I've found all the staff are lovely but they are so incredibly overstretched when it's busy. On friday night I went for a routine bp check on ward 18 and it was so busy you could hear them telling the labour enquiries on the phone to go to Dewsbury! I only have 2 work colleagues who have delivered in the new hospital and they've both said it was fine, and I can't fault my antenatal care at all. As for the parking...back when I was only about 13 weeks (last July Shock) they hadn't even built that big car park and you had to just abandon your car on the grass! I now park up the side street behind the Stanley View Guest House! Can't bring myself to give the NHS a fiver twice a week when I come up for my monitoring sessions. However, i'm just tight!

a bit to your east, but there's a very active and very friendly NCT group in Selby that does stuff for Mums to be, and I think they also have meet ups much nearer you. It'll be online somewhere......but I know one of the ladies that does it and she's lovely!

Had my first visit from the health visitor yesterday who gave me quite an extensive list of NCT and Surestart groups as well as your run of the mill village hall play groups, although I'm not strictly Wakefield, i'm as close to Huddersfield.

Thanks HeyNiki for the info, I am really worried about being turned away from pinderfields and having to go to Dewsbury, having lived in Dewsbury for 3 years and visited the hospital I would much rather be at Pinders, I suppose I have no control though so must just wait and see. Have you been watching "one born every minute"? I try not to but it's very addictive when your pregnant, I must like scaring myself. Hope all is well with you :)

Yes I have been watching OBEM. Sends the hormones crazy though! Argh. Been up at hospital this morning for monitoring, they seemed really short staffed, but luckily wasn't busy at all.

Hi Beth
I'm hijacking a bit here since my dd is 2.5 but since we are TTC no2 i'm having a shufty on some pregnancy threads etc. I just wanted to reassure anyone booked in at Pinders that this new hospital is lovely and they have been short staffed since new year thanks to a d&v bug. I'm a medical rep & work at all the midyorks hospitals & had a few consultants bemoaning having their leave cancelled thanks to this. Its not normally so bad (don't get me wrong, nhs is generally overstretched but does a great job of coping). Also, although Dewsbury is a bit grim, if you did end up there the staff are great & you can get away with not paying for parking cos they don't have private company patrolling carparks like Pinders (every cloud and that;)) Had my DD at Dews for the sheer convenience since its only 5mins from me in Mirfield & it was fine.
Anyway hope all is going well the pg, can't wait to join the club again xx

I had both dc at Dewsbury and found the delivery suite staff were briliant.

The staff on ward two, post birth however, were slightly arse faced about things and so desperate to send me home with a tick on their breastfeeding chart they ignored dc2 tongue tie and sent me home without him feeding properly (yes, 'breastfeeding specialist' midwife, hope you recognise yourself...) and we only got it sorted when my midwife visited me at home.

Delivery unit at Dewsbury fab, but stand your ground with any arsey staff on ward 2!
