Does weight gain slow down in the last trimester?

I'm a bit Shock as at 30 weeks I seem to be putting on 1kg (2.2lbs) per week for the last few weeks. Until recently my weight gain was bang on average, and now I am definitely on course to be on the higher end of the gain charts...

My diet is good and varied, I don't eat sweets/cakes etc. and I haven't over-eaten over Christmas as I didn't really feel like it. I haven't really increased my intake since before being PG and just tend to follow my hunger as to when I need an extra snack, which isn't that often. In fact, without the nightly wine/beer I wouldn't be surprised if I eat LESS calories now!

More than vanity (although it is part of it, I admit) I'm a little bit worried as I read somewhere that sudden weight gain if you haven't been over eating can be a cause for concern. I have slightly puffy ankles but no other swelling so I don't think it's water retention...

Thanks for listening to my fretting Smile

No, it does what it does. Take into account baby's adding weight rapidly, and your body's prepping for BF so is padding out a bit (usually hips, thighs and boobs). All 4lb I've put on have been in the final trimester. As long as your MW isn't worried, and bump is measuring on the centile charts fine, then there's absolutely nothing to worry about.
The sudden weight gain thing can be a sign of many things, BUT you should be being monitored for scary stuff like PE, so mention it, but don't worry.

Mine didn't.. but then I only put on half a stone until I was about 24 weeks, but then I put on over a pound a week until I had DS, so ended up almost 2 stone total weight gain.

Thanks for the responses ladies.

Natasha - yep I've heard that, is it because your stomach is so squashed you don't feel like eating? (nice!)

Oeisha I've put on 22lb so far, so a little bit more than you! You must be a very svelte pregnant lady Grin

Jareth I am on course for two stone in total I think, so that's quite reassuring.

Think I just need to forget the 'average' weight gain charts and let it happen - my body is clearly not going to pay any attention to them! I'll mention it to MW though.

HPG A lot more svelt than I was, yes! Still fit most of my pre-pg clothes. Did have an "overweight" BMI on booking, so noone (bar me) is bothered by the lack of gain thereof.

I was in the same position as you at 30 weeks. I'm now 35 weeks and I actually weigh slightly less than I did at 30, not quite sure how that happened although according to MW it's not something to worry about. You'll probably find it starts to level out in a few weeks time. I know what you mean about vanity being a part of it :o
