Hi, your measurements don't look that much bigger than mine at 26 weeks except estimated weight was 1lb 15. Mine were hc - 236, ac - 216, fl - 48. Maybe a centimetre makes a big difference though. Have they said they will scan you again soon? My baby has been head down since about 22 weeks too so I wouldn't worry about that. My baby is bang on average too, on the 50th centile. Do you know what centile the baby is on?

oh also my babies head down xx

Hi ciwi
According to the sonographer it's on the 97th centile?!

The only reason I'm scared/worrying is I had a EMCS with DD 8 months ago so scar is very raw.....plus big baby may equal problems

Hello

I had a scan on Friday at 29 weeks exactly and baby is measuring on the 99% centile.

HC - 291.4mm
AC - 277.1mm
FL - 58.7mm
Est. fetal weight - 1,795g (nearly 4 lbs)

My son was quite big - 9lbs 1oz - and his head measurements were off the chart. But my consultant is worried about gestational diabetes this time, as the AC measurement is off the scale, ie it's moved from 97th centile to off the scale. The HC, FL and other measurements like BPD and OFD are still on roughly the same curve (this baby has measured big since 12 week scan) so it could be just normal variation for this baby. But I'm booked in for a GTT this Friday, so will find out one way or another.

I wouldn't worry too much about the size (easy to say, especially as I also want to try for a vbac and know what it's like when health professionals can put the fear of god into you about the baby's size!) as bigger babies do not automatically mean problems. Babies in my family and my husband's family tend to be big, so not sure if it's genetic or not, but my midwife says that (unless there's a problem like GD) your body tends to grow babies you can birth.

If you're feeling anxious then hypnobirthing or a natal hypnotherapy CD may help (am doing hypnobirthing again this time and really really enjoy it).

do you have a chart on your ultrasound report plotting where the baby is betweenlthe centiles? there should be three lines; so long as baby is between them it's fine. you also have to take into account you and your partners height and head size. not all babies will be within the line and yet it will be normal for them/you.
don't forget scans are never 100% accurate, they can measure at least 5 days worth of growth either side of measurements taken.
and it's fine if it's head down now, it may well somersault around by the time your out of the department again.
don't worry :-)

I just wanted to update this to say that I don't have gestational diabetes. I got my results today and am all clear [relief] but it shows that a growth scan can show a big baby, especially a big tummy, and there be no diabetes causing it.
