I'm curious to know the answer to this as i would like to add holiday onto the end of my maternity leave but as i work a term time contract i wont be able to save any holiday up before to finish to use at the end of my maternity leave.
I'm not really sure how this one works? does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

yes you still earn holiday whist on maternity and usually you are advised to take begore maternity leave starts or before you return from maternity leave x

Yes, you continue to accrue annual leave whilst on maternity leave.

A lot of women where I work have used their annual leave they saved up during ML to tag on an extra month off at the end of their ML.

Yes, you do earn annual leave and you also accrue public holidays. So, for example, if you were on mat leave over the Christmas period, you would get the two days for Christmas and Boxing Day, plus New Years Day added onto your holiday accrual. Does that make sense?

Yes you accrue your annual leave whilst you are on mat leave.

However you don't necessarily get your bank holidays back. That's dependant on ur workplace and their maternity policy

yy melliebobs - my employer does not allow accrual of public/privilege holidays because while I am on ML I am getting paid for them - and it's the same as if I was off sick on a bank holiday - I don't get the option to take it another day because I was poorly on the day it fell.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/01/2012 20:14

I got holidays but not bank holidays.

MelodyPondering · 09/01/2012 20:21

You should get bank holidays kddd

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/01/2012 20:24

Sorry I mean I didn't accrue them while on mat leave.

MelodyPondering · 09/01/2012 20:48

You should though!

This organisation offers advice on employment rights and welfare benefits for pregnant women and new families:

www.maternityaction.org.uk/

They have leaflets (in English and other languages) and an advice line.

does anyone know what happens if the maternity leave goes into the next holiday year? I can't carry over my holiday and I'm not supposed to take it until I've 'earnt' it, which I won't have by when I leave
