Hi, I'm due to start mat leave at 38 weeks, but will leave work at 35 weeks due to three weeks A/L i have left.

I am currently 32 weeks, does anyone know if bank holidays are accrued during mat leave???? I can't remember from my last DC (I think they are) i work in the public sector if that's any diff from private?!

If so then I have 9 extra days to take before I go off :-/ my A/L year ends aug 31st, and I think I'm allowed to take 5 days over to next year :-/

In the NHS you don't accrue bank holidays on mat leave, but where you work it might be different. It should say in your maternity pack.

Sorry, 9 extra days coz I've still got 3 days A/L, was thinking 2x BH for Easter, 2x BH in may and the extra BH for jubilee!

I thought you got it before you return to work? As technically you haven't actually had the time yet - like accruing annual leave on your mat leave?

amandine I work for the NHS and I go in Mat leave in 2 weeks. During my leave there will be 6 bank holidays ALL of which I get back. It will depend on your trust and their policy

By law (since oct 2008) you accrue bh whilst on mat leave.

CheekyChoppers · 08/01/2012 22:40

Do you have to add them to the end of mat leave like figgy thought? What if the end of mat leave is in the next leave year?

I went on mat leave in 2009 (NHS) and most definitely did not get accrued bank holidays.

It's not law that you get bh back, it's individual trust policy. Mine doesn't do it, but some do. HTH

I work in the public sector. I accrued BHs and will take them the week before I go back. I dont thik you can take them before they,ve happened in case you go back early.

I accrue bh or at at least I did last time Hmm I seem to remember taking all my hols and bh before hand??? I will have to check for this time although there are only 2 I'll be entitled to, don't forget Xmas day, boxing day and ny day which all fall in the week this year :)
