Hi, I'm 38 weeks pregnant and new to mumsnet. :-) since Tuesday I've been having mild cramps in lower tummy and lots of braxton hicks. The cramps last for about a minute. Baby has been 2/5 ths engaged since 34 weeks. Also been feeling sick and going to the loo more often (sorry if tmi!). I'm a first time mum so would just like some opinions as dont want to ring labour ward and be told its nothing lol.

Ta :-) xx

Going to the loo alot is normal but the mild cramps and and braxton hicks could be the start. Time the gap in between the pains. If they are less than 5 mins it's more likely to be contractions. If more than 5 mins then the ward is less likely to say for you to come in.

I would ring to be on the safe side if it is less than 5 mins. If they say it's nothing then there is no harm done.

Sounds like your body getting ready. I'd rest and enjoy the calm!!

Hi there. I'm just over 39 weeks now and I've been having braxton hicks on and off since 34 weeks, so that in itself isn't a sign of imminent labour. Unless you're getting very frequent and regular contractions (less than 5 mins apart) there's no real need to contact the birth centre. Other signs, which your care provider should have explained, would be a show, waters breaking, waves of pain, an upset stomach, vomiting etc - though you wouldn't necessarily get all of these!

Plus 38 weeks is full term, so not worryingly early! Here's hoping all goes well for you!

Aww thanks guys :) I've had pretty bad spd as well so really can't wait for it to be over! The cramps are mild though but I never got bad period cramps.
