Scan today and no yolk sac seen or heartbeat

Had an early scan today, as i had slight pink spotting yesterday.

My last period was on the 3rd November, which should make me 8+6. According to scan baby is measuring as 5+6, no heartbeat (but she could see a pulsation) or yolk sac was seen.

I was asked if i had my dates wrong and told to come back next week for another scan, as if i am only 5+6 and baby is measuring at 4mm, they would not expect to see a heartbeat until baby measured 7mm.

My dates are right, i always write down the dates of my period.

Am i clutching at straws? Anyone had anything similar, with a good or bad ending?

I'm so sorry, I can't give you any helpful advice, except to say sit tight someone will be along soon with somehting useful, in the meantime, grab a cuppa and a biscuit.

Oh you poor thing. I had early scan at seven weeks and got warned they might not see heartbeat this early but don't know what is expected at the stage you think you are.

I just wanted to reply in the hope more useful peoPle would come along and so you know you're not alone.

Hold in there

Thanks Doodle, i was thinking i might have ovulated late or implatation took longer than expected, but 3 weeks is quite a difference.

Do you know if the scan would take into account the 2 weeks the Dr adds on ie the week of your period and the week after when you could not have conceived? that might explain the 3 week gap.

I had this, I was totally certain of dates. I did miscarry. Sorry but I would say this is likely for you.
There is loads of support on here if you need it. I have no words for you as none made me feel any better when it happened to me.
Time will heal. You will never forget.

Thanks Mayday, sorry to hear that. I had a miscarriage in May too when i was 6 weeks.

Its the not knowing which is driving me mad, clinging to every bit of hope, as harsh as it seems if i am going to miscarry i just want it to be over and done with, it would make dealing with it a little easier i think.

I had 2 missed miscarriages both between were aged between 8 and 9 weeks though i should have been with 16 weeks 4 days with the first one. It sounds like there is a possibilty this has happened to you. But also with mysecond (i later went on to have another miscarriage) i had an early scan and they could see the baby but not detect heartbeat and was in the same situation as you, went back for another scan was told i was 5 weeks and 6 days, and saw the heartbeat etc. I unfortunately went on to miscarry. I am sorry i cannot be more helpful. It is really too early to say. But in comfort if it helps, my little boy wasnt "as far gone" as my last period suggested. He is now a healthy, mischievious 18month old. So sorry. x

hiya, yeah been here twice in the last six months and miscarried twice. I was also sure of my dates. The 2nd time they asked me to come back a week later and inbetween the two appointments I bled heavily. here's hoping it works out for you, but if not I hope it helps to know you're not alone x

Claw3 · 04/01/2012 18:41

Thanks for sharing Ellen and Smith, it is helpful to know im not alone. Ellen glad you had a happy ending with your little boy.

I suppose its just going to be a case of waiting, its torture.

Oh you poor thing. I really hope that it works out, I couldn't think of anything worse than just waiting around, torture. Let us know how you get on, I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you my love. Lots of love xxx

Claw3 · 04/01/2012 18:57

Thanks Littledink, i havent had any pinky spotting today at all (i keep expecting this to worsen) so i suppose that could be a a good sign. Im trying to stay positive, but its very difficult when everything seems to be going in the opposite direction.

Will let you know, especially any good news x

Oh bless you claw you seem to be handling this really impressively. In response to your question I can't remember sorry.

Its so difficult at this stage when as far as I'm aware very little can be done. But my thoughts will remain with you and I really hope you get good news.

Claw3 · 04/01/2012 19:19

Thanks again Doodle and everyone else for your comments and kind wishes. Prepare for the worse and hope for the best is all i can do i suppose, im an emotional wreck underneath xx
