36 weeks, feeling unwell and miserable

I am 36+5 and have been feeling unwell for the past 3 days. Feel so tired all the time but unable to relax. Ventured out to meet a friend for lunch today and had to turn around and come home as felt dizzy and sick, thought I was going to faint. Getting lightheaded and so overcome by tiredness that by evening I can't string a word together and usually just end up crying.

At my last midwife app 6 days ago she said the baby was 3/5 engaged but I know this means little with your second child. Although, it is now uncomfortable to walk far so does feel like he has moved down.

Baby making eratic movements last night, felt like he was desperately trying to escape! That has settled today and back to normal movements.

Basically, I am fed up and feeling extremely anxious. Anyone else feeling similar or know if this is normal? Don't remember feeling like this last time. TIA

Sounds rotten, poor you. I would make sure your bag is packed and go to get some rest. I remember feeling very much like this the day before DS1 was born. Best of luck Smile

patsdeadfrank · 03/01/2012 21:38

hi, this sounds very similar to me and sounds like low blood sugar according to the hospital and mw.
are you eating regularly? i got a massive lecture in the hospital after fainting because i hadnt eaten since lunch time and it was now 6.30. i wasnt hungry but that is not the point apparently. as we get bigger we need to eat more often even if its just little snacks to keep our energy topped up. i have been doing this and have had less problems though still am getting it if i leave dinner to late etc.
its a pain in the bum tbh i am 32 wks and feel like i still have a eon left of feeling like crap.

poppypops · 03/01/2012 21:56

Thank you for your replies. Bag packed and re-packed! Went 2weeks over first time but have a feeling that won't be the case this time (wishful thinking!).

Have been eating ok, could do with remembering to drink more though. Glad to hear you feel better after your faint scare patsdeadfrank. It is frightening when you feel faint or do actually faint. Lack of control in these situations scare me, hence why I am feeling so miserable/anxious.

oh Poppypops, I'm right there with you... 36+5 today and am dead tired but unable to sleep. Also expecting DC2, also told yesterday that she is engaged...

After a very very quiet day on Monday (to the point where I was worried) the bump was like a mexican wave yesterday afternoon and early evening. Started getting contractions so painful that I couldn't walk or stand properly. Broke out in a cold sweat and had the shakes, certain that it was time to go to hospital. Packed DC1 in the car and drove to my mum's because she's near the hospital and can look after DC1 while I'm in labour... And then... A big fat nothing. Contractions eased off by midnight, I slept til 4AM and spent my usual insomnia hours 4-7AM awake.

I was sure I'd be holding a baby by today.

Not much help I guess, but you're not alone! Drinking raspberry leaf tea and munching on pineapples today :)

37 weeks today with my first and have felt unwell for a few days seem to have a bit of everything not sleeping, shattered, feeling sick, sore tummy, feel weak and dizzy it's rotten feeling like this when people ask whats wrong which they do since i look like death i can't explain it just don't feel well in general. Glad to know it's not just me being a baby.

BrownB · 04/01/2012 20:15

37+3 here and I feel properly pathetic today. My back is aching and I feel totally rubbish. I have a sore throat, and I am not coping well. The doctor seemed happy enough with stuff today thankfully.

heliumballoon · 04/01/2012 22:23

35+5 with DC2 and miserable as hell. No appetite so eating badly, so feeling faint and dizzy. Can't get comfy to sleep, and have cough I just can't shake. Also I recognise the reports of anxiety, just want the baby out safely ASAP. It's not nice to see others in the same position but in a way it's comforting, as mw and gp are soooo dismissive "you're pg, what do you expect?".

I was thinking of starting a thread about things I cannot wait to do when baby arrives. One is to walk down the road to the corner shop without having to stop to catch my breath.

kiki22 · 04/01/2012 23:13

I can't wait to stand up faster than an 80 yr old again!

and to be able to get out of bed without it taking an 8 point turn

poppypops · 05/01/2012 09:27

Morning all, hope everyone managed to get some sleep with all that howling wind last night! It is reassuring to hear that I am not the only one feeling this crappy. Although at 3am it does feel pretty lonely and depressing.

Broodzilla, how annoying. Fingers crossed things progress and happen soon. It really is the unknown that is so frustrating, think if I knew when to expect little mans arrival I would deal with it better.

Well I am off for bloods now as continue to feel dizzy, faint and Bp was slightly raised yesterday. I suspect midwife just wanted me out of her hair however so was going to do anything I suggested. :)

patsdeadfrank · 05/01/2012 13:30

good your getting bloods done best to get things checked out, my bp was raised today and i am having vision probs so now they are thinking maybe pre pre-eclampsia rather than low blood sugar gah. got to go back every couple of day to have my bp checked to see if it gets any higher. but baby heart rate etc is all fine so no worries there.
how is it some women just seem to breeze through pregnancy all glowy and happy?

Fishandjam · 05/01/2012 14:07

Hi poppy and deadfrank - good that you're getting checked for PE. I had wondered about it when I first saw this thread yesterday. deadfrank, you should also for bloods too, especially if you're having visual disturbances - that was how my PE was detected (as my BP and urine were within acceptable limits for 38 weeks gestation!) I was induced that same day....

Freckle17 · 06/01/2012 22:22

So glad to hear I am not the only one feeling miserable...God bless!

monkeymamma · 07/01/2012 11:57

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better today... the last few weeks seem to be pretty tough. I've just surfaced after a massive migraine over the last few days (am 37+1 today) so feel generally 'ugh'. Had obstetrician (sp?) appt in the middle of it, and once she'd checked it wasn't preeclampsia (I have very low blood pressure and no other PE symptoms) she couldn't have been less sympathetic! (She was of the 'well it's only a headache isn't it?' school of thought, grrr).
Has anyone else had upset tummy around about now? I've heard it can be precurser to labour so may go and re-pack hospital bag just in case!

poppypops · 07/01/2012 12:48

Afternoon monkeymamma, pleased your migraine has shifted. They are absolutely awful. Tummy upset here also plus numerous other niggles. Honestly, I am driving myself and my poor long suffering husband mad, constantly questioning if this is it, what does this mean, is everything ok etc.

Does anyone else find that it gets to the evening and you start feeling panicky about going into labor during the night before you've managed to get a few hours decent sleep?

OP posts:
idlevice · 07/01/2012 19:06

Very similar here OP, panicky, agitated, not sleeping for more than 1.5hrs at a time if I'm lucky, aching, etc but I have been feeling crappy for months. I had a high blood pressure reading last week at 38+6wks, went in for monitoring & it was ok but blood tests showed low iron & I am supposed to be having an iron transfusion next week if they can get it in before labour. I suspected low iron for ages & always asked about it at antenatal appts but kept getting the "what do you expect" response esp as it's DC2. So I would advise asking about your iron just to check.

Also if you can, have a pregnancy massage once or twice a week to help with relaxing - I started doing this just as something to give me a boost to get through the last couple of weeks.

Broodzilla · 07/01/2012 19:53

still here... I feel like I've gone from feeling miserable and fed up to "this baby is NEVER coming out".

Monkeymamma, I don't want to alarm you, but did they check your bloods or just bp? You might want to insist for a more thorough check-up if you don't start feeling better, have a look at the pre-eclampsia mentalling thread.

Poppypops, I'm with you on the evening panic... With DS, my waters suddenly broke at midnight of the day when I for once had NOT had a nap... By the time he was actually born, I won't even tell you how many hours I'd been awake for... I think a daily nap needs to be very high on the to-do list these last few weeks/days!

Oh, the moon is nearly full, fingers crossed we'll get these babies out!

Broodzilla · 07/01/2012 19:54

Sorry, just realised I've repeated what Fish said above... Ignore me and my preggobrain...

monkeymamma · 07/01/2012 20:07

Thanks, poppypops and broodzilla! Think I will take your advice about a more thorough check-up and will have a look at the PE thread.
Also great reminder re afternoon nap! I'm always much more sleepy at 4pm than I am at 4am so will prioritize a bit of shut-eye over and above ironing our spare napkins or whatever crazy nesting is currently on my mind :-) Hope everyone feels better soon and that these babies arrive before too long!
