Hi. Research seems to state that generally sperm can survive in the woman for 3/4 days, but can be up to 6/7 days.
If you are trying to conceive, you need to work out your monthly cycle first. So the first day of your period is Day 1, then count each dat until the next period. You ovulate around Day 11 of the cycle, so you could use some ovulation sticks to work out when you ovulate, which is the best time to have sex obviously!
There is plenty of information here.

How long it lives inside you is dependent upon several factors, particularly how accommodating the environment is at that given time but it can be up to 5 days or more.

It's not true that you ovulate around day 11 though. The average is day 14 but it varies from woman to woman and you tend to ovulate the same number of days before your next period from month to month (between 10 and 16 days beforehand in the average woman). So for some women whose cycles are clockwork, you'd expect them to ovulate on the same day each month but if your cycle varies at all you can be ovulating earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

If your friend is ttc she would be better off having sex three times a week rather than trying to time it around ovulation. If you have sex three times a week you are guaranteed to hit the fertile window pretty much. Unless all three times are on the same day!!

Generally sperm survive 2-3 days on average in the female body, but in the most ideal circumstances then can survive longer. More than 5 days is unlikely.

She says thanks but is still rather confused as she posted on here on her username the other day ( alwaysconfusedlol) her cycles are every 28-30days and some one had posted saying that she could conceive at any time of the month even while on her period she was just tryna get the best options shes only been trying for 8 months but its bugging her now.. on here its saying her most fertile days are january8th so when should she have it now as you say sperm can live inside of her for up to 3-5 days!? then when her fertile day it would be day 5 am i right or wrong? im clearly clueless and know nothing about conception/conceive lol im also writting and asking for her as she has spelling dificulty. X

Every other day from day 10 to day 18 of her cycle if she is normally 28-30 days. She won't miss the fertile window that way.

You can't conceive at any time of the month. The trouble is, you can't predict for sure when you are going to ovulate. That is why, if you don't want to get pregnant, there is no time when it is definitely safe.

She should stop worrying about the lifespan of sperm and just get on with having more sex. I don't think there is any need to be confused about it. There is no need to worry about all this stuff if you are having sex three times a week. She could try ovulation tests as well.
