Just curious after reading Berocca thread. I'm taking Sanatogen ProNatal, Mumomega, 25mg of vit B6 (for morning sickness) and, very occasionally when I can bear it, a probiotic... If you shake me, I rattle!

Marne · 13/01/2006 18:20

I dont take any, should i be? i always try to get what i need through food.

crowcall · 13/01/2006 18:25

I'm not taking any. Didn't know you should (other than folic acid at the beginning).

slinkstah · 13/01/2006 18:28

i would take a multivitamin and fish oils, fish oils prevent preterm labour and have other reported benefits to baby too. I find it difficult to get the whole range of vitamins and minerals everyday from food so i top up with the multivitamin.

Mandymoo · 13/01/2006 20:33

Not taking any - i try and eat the right foods.

Took Pregnacare religiously for the first 4 months with occasional mumomega ("geriatric" so a bit paranoid!!). Only been taking supplements on days when diet was not so good. I think they've definately helped as iron levels still v good (14 at 38 weeks)

sweetkitty · 14/01/2006 09:24

I've been taking a Sanatogen Pregnancy multivit every day since ttc my first baby in Feb 2003!!! Have been ttc-pregnant-BFing-pregnant since then. Am veggie so like to have a little something extra just in case I miss some iron etc and the folic acid is good too.

Am also taking 6 raspberry leaf tablets a day right now but to no avail.

kreamkrackers · 14/01/2006 09:38

i take pregnacare. i thought fish oils were bad as they have vitamin A which can be very harmful during pregnancy, don't mean to scare anyone because i might be wrong.

Aloha · 14/01/2006 09:59

Only fish LIVER oils contain vitamin A. ie Cod liver oil. Other fish oils get the oil from the flesh, so no vitamin A.

When pg I took calcium, a pregnancy multivit (pregnacare or Zita West - fantastic formulations btw), choline, a dha (fish oil) supplement and a probiotic.

Now take fish oil supplement, multivitamin and probiotic (ie Yakult) every so often, and calcium when I remember.

kreamkrackers · 14/01/2006 10:20

so why are fish oils so important in pregnancy?

Aloha · 14/01/2006 10:21

Proven beneficial effects on foetal brain and eye development, and also help prevent premature birth. Also help prevent post natal depression.

munz · 14/01/2006 10:28

I took pregnacare for the first 14 weeks roughly then the m/w said I didn't need to take anything else. I do as marne and get all my requirements from foods.

will be using raspberry leaf in a few weeks!

I think there is not the slightest doubt over the safety of fish oils in pregnancy and they do not contain significant amounts (if any) of vitamin A.

ShaysMummy · 15/01/2006 00:00

Sanatogen ProNatal. Expensive and the size of horse tablets, but have everything in them, so if I am feeling sicky and don't want to eat much, I know I'm getting what I need. I took them with my first so I'm taking them again. I like things simple! One tablet is enough for me to remember!!

jersey · 16/01/2006 08:47

I am taking pregnacare multivitamins inc. folic acid this time as when first found out preg my diet was very good. Stil taking at moment although diet is better than it was as we have discovered the power juicer and not drink loads of fresh juiced fruit and veg. DS is 19months and love the juice, good was to get the fruit and veg into a toddler .

cathyspam · 16/01/2006 08:52

only took sanatongen pro natal and increased my calcium intake with milk - didnt realise there were so many pregnancy vits out there!

Im taking probiotics, i heard they can reduce the risk of baby getting eczema and ashma. taking them also to keep any down there infections at bay, seem to be prone to thrush whilst pg.
i am unsure about pre-biotics though.

Pinchypants · 19/01/2006 15:54

I've been taking Zita West vits since TTC - she has pre-conception blend and different ones for each trimester, plus her DHA (good stuff from fish oil) tabs. And a probiotic as it helps to keep me regular and avoid thrush! Zita West are v pricey I must admit, but I trust her! Not anal about taking them - prob about 5 times a week - but reassuring that I'm getting the things I need even though have had raging sickness.
