HORRIBLE taste!

Noticing the 'metallic taste' people talk about was the biggest sign that made me take a pregnancy test, but this is different...

Metal taste went away at about 5 weeks, but now (8+6) and for the last few days I've had the most awful taste imaginable in my mouth - I keep describing it to dear partner as tasting like 'poison'. It's much more 'chemically' than metallic, it's absolutely awful and sometimes sets my teeth on edge - I actually noticed them grinding together a little bit earlier today because of it. Has anybody got any idea what this could be? Is it just another 'good sign'/ symptom that the pregnancy's progressing (I'm always worried for one reason or another that it's not!), or is it something that should be causing concern?

I had a horrible taste for much longer this pregnancy. It started off as metallic but became stronger eventually dominated everything - sour tangs, polos and old fashioned lemonade were all I wanted (oh & potato salad). It did go by around 10 weeks, with DD I remember it being far more brief. This time I'm having a boy so not sure if that's got something to do with it.

I had a truely vile taste last time around - it was the sweetish smell/taste of decay and overwhelmed me all day every day for the first 20 or so weeks. It did go eventually and chewing on mints did help slightly but basically for at least half of my pregnancy it was as though something had died in my mouth and I really struggled with it. Healthy baby boy was the result.

Hi

I too had this and we are having a boy. Perhaps it is something to do with the Male hormones pumping around our body. The MW advised that she finds that women carying boys also itch more than those carrying girls. xx

Had any antibiotics? Could it be oral thrush?
Have you seen the dentist incase it's gingivitis (common in pregnancy)?

Corsodyl (although evil stuff) might help.
