4 x Miscarriages. Will baby Aspirin help

Hi All,

I have had 4 early miscarriages in the last 18 months and I am currently under Prof Regan at St mary's.

My tests came back 2 weeks ago and I have high blood clotting/prothrombotic tendancy. Therefore, prof Regan has advised for me to take 150mg of aspirin from my next positive test.

I just wondered if A) anyone else out there has been treated like this and if the treatment was successful and B) why I would have been to told to take it from BFP and not from conception (or before)

Thanks in advance

Amy

Yes - and am 36 weeks pregnant (only on 75mg tho as my tests were 50/50 on blood
Clotting and I fell pregnant before did third test). Also took progesterone for
First twelve weeks .
Not sure why only start at conception - I guess it's cos it is only when pregnant that need extra help.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through.

You're at the right place I would have thought.

Heparin? I always took it even without a history of mc (but complicated IVFs). Not fun but pretty cheap (well by IVF standards) and does help a lot of people.

Ask at St. Mary's?

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. It just sucks.

I am not posting from my own experience, but my friend had many miscarriages. She took aspirin daily with her last pregnancy and the baby is now 17 months old. She believes the aspirin is why her daughter is with us now.

I have had 7 mc's. With my successful pregnancies (3 of them) I was on Clexane injections and aspirin. Also Progesterone in most recent one. I have 3 boys now :)

Sorry for what youve been through. You will find a lot of people who have tried aspirin, progesterone and other things on the miscarriage boards. The recurrent buns thread and the pregant after miscarriage thread have lots of people who have had success trying these things. I am pregnant (just around 11 weeks do not yet counting any chickens) after 4 mcs and taking aspirin, but that's along with a whole load of other things after a diagnosis of very high natural killer cells. But i know there are several ladies on these threads who are having successful pregnancies with just aspirin. There seems to be dime debate whether to start from TTC or bfp but both seem to help so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Good luck with it all!

3 x mc's in 2009 took aspirin until 32 weeks for the 4th pregnancy as discussed with RC MC consultant, now have very energetic toddler, just started TTC no. 2 and will take it from the moment I (fingers crossed) get a positive.

Good Luck

6 mc's here but I then took aspirin and have a healthy 3 year old. Took from conception as I assume that's when you need the help from. Currently 12 weeks with number 2 and on aspirin again. I believe I would not have children without the wonder that is aspirin!

Thanks ladies,

these are all such encouraging stories and I think i am starting to have a more positive outlook which is something I thought I had lost hope of ever having again.

i will have a look at the recurrent buns thread too as it really helps getting other peoples perspectives and hearing their stories.

best wishes and good luck to you all

I had 4 miscarriages before getting pregnant again in April 2011 and was told to take baby aspirin (75mg) from BFP just as a "try it and see" approach. I wasn't diagnosed with any blood clotting problems. I was however, diagnosed as deficient in Vitamin D, and I was treated for that too in early pregnancy. I took the aspirin every day until 36 weeks and I'm 39 weeks pregnant now and due any day. I don't know whether being treated for the vit D deficiency helped or the aspirin intake - but it certainly didn't do me any harm and am so thankful to the doctors who treated me.

Lovely news - wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy!

froggers1 · 02/01/2012 16:25

Hi - yes I have clotting probs - APS and am on 75 mg and have a 3 yr old and am currently 24 weeks pregnant now! Aspirin is great!! I only took from BFP this time as we had an 'accident' - albeit much wanted! Good luck xx

LAF77 · 02/01/2012 19:38

Amy I was seen at St Mary's too. I was found to have high MA levels when pg. I started taking 150mg of aspirin at 6 weeks when I was tested. I have to take it until 34 weeks, I'm 28+5 today after suffering 3 losses in 2010.

Good luck in getting your BFP.

freelancegirl · 02/01/2012 20:32

Aha, I was hoping LAF and milky would turn up to advise!

Amy I would also add that I too took vitamin d. Other non prescribed supplements I am taking are selenium, omega 3 and a pregnacare. Dr google, my specialist and a quite a few thread friends from the miscarriage and conception boards seem to indicate these all might be helpful and are not potentially harmful. That said, am not nearly out of the woods yet! But yes rhe miscarriage boards and quite a few threads on the conception boards should be helpful for you.

AmyHS · 02/01/2012 20:47

Thanks again,

this is all really helpful

I'm on aspirin, which I took from bfp, and heparin which I started at 6 1/2 weeks pregnant after an early scan. 25 weeks now so it's working for me. I had borderline tests for antiphospholipid syndrome but got pregnant in the middle of the testing before they could try the test again.
