Advice needed ! (again)
About 2 weeks ago I was suffering from terrible back pains and stomach pains so I went to the doctors (I'm 20 weeks pg) found out I had blood in my urine so the gave me antibiotics to treat a uti.. Since then they called back to say its a very rare bacteria they found and they are not sure what treats it.. Had the first lot of antibiotics finished them Wednesday.. Woke up this morning with terrible kidney pains again so back to the doctors the uti is still there so more antibiotics for me... Has anyone else suffered from constant uti's during pregnancy ??? The kidney pain is driving me nuts :-(

I did. You won't want to hear this but I had 4 days in hospital at one point cos' the kidney infection hadn't been detected earlier. This was from 11 - 18 weeks. of pregnancy.

I hope that they get you some anti-b's that combat it. I then went to drinking lemon barley water every day (several glasses a day) cos' that helps flush out your water works. And I used to change my knickers several times a day (cotton ones of course!) - I think that's paranoia but I didn't get another infection. Also lay off sugary stuff cos bacteria likes to breed in it.

Good news is - if you can get through serious kidney pain, then labour pains are a breeze...

Lots of luck

yes, I did in both pregnancies - thankfully felt something wrong literally the day I got the infection each time (I think) so always caught early - bit did have a fair few courses of antibiotics in each pregnancy. No idea why I kept getting them but it is very important to keep drinking a lot and have a lot of cranberry juice. I think I got some concentrated cranberry powder from the pharmacy that I would mix with water every day..
hth!

Ouch poor you!

Could you take cranberry extract tablets? Boots do a 400mg one. I've always been really prone to uti and these have worked well as a preventative. Not sure about taking them during pregnancy though...Might be worth asking your gp or mw. I've just fallen pregnant (am about 7 weeks now) and I will def be asking if I can take these. Best of luck. I feel your pain! (literally). I'm 35 weeks and currently on my 5th UTI this pregnancy. I've been given a low dose antibiotic now to take at night to try and prevent any more. It's awful. Unfortunately, mine tend to be almost symptomless right up until the crippling back pain and nausea, which is a bit dangerous, so it's a good job I'm being seen in the antenatal clinic every 2 weeks, or I'd have probably ended up in hospital by now.

None of that is helpful, I know, but you are not alone!

this must be horrid. check out cranberry capsules i checked with mw and she said they are fine, but maybe check with yours before taking. i remember reading they were more effective than anti bios on uti's. you can take both if they say its okay. hope you get better soon

Thanks everyone ! I'm going to try these new antibiotics and I'm def off to get some cranberry capsules....

I had a UTI for 30 out of my 41 weeks and was hospitalised for 14 days so I could have IV antibiotics at one point Sad it was constantly in my kidneys as well. The best antibiotics for it is Cefalexin - might give you the squits though Blush

Newtothisstuff · 12/01/2012 07:23

Tried that one first.. I'm on trimethoprim now which makes me nervous because apparently its dangerous in pregnancy.. Fingers crossed it makes it go it's driving me crazy..

Double check newtothisstuff as I definately wasn't allowed trimethoprim!!

Good luck and I hope it eases off soon.

newtothisstuff if you are open to homeopathy it worked for me. I am so sorry you have this going on it is horried when not pregnant. I used to suffer awful with kidneys and utis antib after antib and then had a remedy and never had it since, now 38 and was 17 at the time. if you decide its for you look for a classicaly trained homeopath or let me know and i can help you look.
