Brown discharge in early pregnancy?!

hi :-) I'm new to this and can see there's alot of other women experiencing same as me but I only found out I'm expecting on Thurs, and at the mo don't know how far gone I am. Estimating at bout 4/5 weeks but o was on microgynon (new to that too!)

I've been having brown or light pink discharge for couple a weeks, but just thought period coming?! Never did so four tests down line am defo preg!

I had slight pains so went hospital Friday, they've took bloods and going back Tuesday to discuss how hormone levels are going. Doc said everything seemed normal and cervix closed which it wouldn't if was start of m/c (sorry for tmi)

I've had a m/c previously and tbh didn't think I could have anymore kids due to irregular periods, hot flushes and all that jazz fir years.

I'm worried that I'll go to find out hcg levels snd it'll be like whrn I miscarried, although when that happened I was bleeding mega and clotting, whereas this is just brown

Another cause that's worrying me is I've had sensitive nose etc to all sorts this week but come thurs/fri that's stopped and I'm thinking sonets not right

Am I going mad??

No you aren't going mad just having stressful early pregnancy . As dr has probably said its still very early in your pregnancy.
I had on off brown (and some red spotting) with this pregnancy from about 6-15 weeks. Am now 36 weeks.
It was also start of my 3 mc but they all progressed quite quickly to heavier bleeding cramps etc.

So I think whilst it's not ideal, it's not unknown and may not mean the worse. Have they offered you a scan? As seeing a heartbeat/yolk sac and that baby in position important .

Re smell thing- that comes and goes with me. Was sign before I did a test that was pregnant then went and seemed to come back late in so wouldn't read too much into it.

Sarah i'm in exactly the same boat - am about 7 weeks, i'm on day 5 of intermittent cramps and day two of ocasional brown spotting.

Firstly i pannicked and thought the worst, but I've now done a bit of research online and in books, apparently tummy cramps with/without brown/pink spotting are normal in early pregnancy as your uterus and ligaments prepare for baby. If the cramps become very strong or unbearably painful or you have red blood, that's when you should see someone. But until then, just put your feet up and let someone else pamper you.

Best of luck to you for a happy and healthy pregnancy Smile

Thanks for ur comments :-) I think sometimes reading up on Internet can make you worse but this time it's good to see that alot of others have experienced it and it's all been fine.! :-)

My brown spotting comes and goes And there isn't any pain when that happens, that's just every now and then. I am one of those until I see for my own eyes I either a) won't believe I'm pregnant or b) won't believe it's going to be ok.! But I think positive thinking is needed lol

I have bloods results Tiesday and am booked already at the early assessment ward 9th jan, I pressing they'll scan then?! Tbh it's the hcg levels I'm worried about because as I said earlier the last time I had these tests it was because they were increasing hundreds and nit thousands and was m/c, then again I had bern excessively bleeding for over two weeks

I'm a worrier at the best of times

I will be positive minded and put alot down to water infection that I have

Good luck & Congratulations with ur pregnancies and thankyou for ur reassurance lol

:) Thanks

i'm glad i read this thread, i am 9 weeks with 2nd pregnancy and have had some brown discharge today and was reading all sorts of different views on the internet, it didn't make me feel very good. having read this i am a bit more optimistic. i am like you Sarah that i keep doubting that i am pregnant - i was the only one to do a test and i haven't had my first appt with my midwife yet and until someone else confirms it or i see the scan i have doubt - although i have LOTS of other symptoms. Thanks ladies, good luck all.

I had brown discharge and spotting with DD from 16 weeks on and off. Went to hospital a few times to be checked. It is really worrying. Nobody really explained it but all was fine. DD's 3 now.

Hotcupofteaplease · 01/01/2012 20:21

I also had a fair bit of brown and light pink spotting during my first pregnancy; went for a scan at 7 weeks to be sure everything was okay and the doctor explained that it is quite common for this to happen around the time your period should have been due... mine stopped once I got into the second trimester.

Sarah8101 · 02/01/2012 13:21

Hopefully it will just pass then :-)

I was more worried for fact that other than slight discomfort of breasts any symptoms I had have gone

Just thought I'd let you all know that after my bloods from Friday were 79000 with progesterone of 70.2, had more this morning and they are just over 100,000. Bleed/pain stopped so fingers crossed all good. Scan next Monday and told more like 7 weeks gone, slightly more than thought lol.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that commented s d gave their personal experiences/advice xx

great news sarah! good luck :)

PoppyS34 · 04/01/2012 10:01

that's good news, and good luck for the scan. :)

This may be the scare mongery side of me, but I got some strong podtire like aches to both left and right sides..not across centre of back though. This may sound grouse but once I'd bern to the toilet I felt some relief but had pink discharge, quote a bit of discharge with brighter pink tint to it! This was last night and with paranoia I went to bed to relax. I feel fine now and no more tints..BUT since having a positive test s week ago my symptoms have become less and less, other than hormone levels I had took.

I still have tender berate but very very slight, almost non existent, I can smell more but not as queezy..I've prob had three bouts of queaziness this week. I'm just worried and expecting bad news when I go for scan Monday. So much so that I don't want to go :-(

Am I over reacting or should I be concerned? X
