Got DSs down from the attic and the bloody thing has gone mouldy! [grr] Have tried cleaning it, but it is def beyond saving

I want to spend as little as possible, DS coslept a lot so it will probably barely be used (still want one as it was handy for bringing downstairs for daytime naps).

I have bedding, I have covers, I have a stand. If possible I literally only want a wicker basket and mattress (dont understand what the hood is for anyway?)

Cheapest I have found so far was £30! Surely I can get one for less than this?!

Can anyone help? :)

Found this one www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_166_10751_-1_14697_127202_10001_14053

I did see one in Tesco for £17.50 a while back so it might be worth keeping an eye on their website!

Nanny01 · 01/01/2012 12:57

ebay would be my suggestion.

melliebobs · 01/01/2012 13:29

eBay or gumtree or freecycle. Can't get cheaper than free!!!!!

MrsCog · 01/01/2012 19:30

I got a brand new one (ie still in packaging) for £10 from an NCT sale and the stand was a mere £1.50! So £11.50 to beat!

I've had a look on ebay and amazon and can find them for about a tenner, but then the postage on top is about another tenner, so probably easier to use a "shop" rather than them.

I've put a request on FB and will keep an eye on it, no huge rush yet anyway...
(MrsCog I got DSs brand new from a charity shop for a fiver. Seems I'm not lucky enough to get that sort of bargain twice! Grin)

Do you have a carrycot type pram? I shelled out £££ for a moses basket and stand for my second baby (had one lent to me by my sister the first time round and it also went mouldy) Little one is 9 weeks old and it hasnt been getting any use at all as I prefer co-sleeping this time. I wish I hadnt bothered buying it, especially as he prefers sleeping in the bugaboo carrycot for daytime naps anyway, and is in bed with me at night.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 01/01/2012 19:55

I bought this one in my local mothercare, extra cheap as I had a token, it is nice in the flesh and has a blanket It is reasonable when you factor in buying a new mattress if second hand.etc

karatekimmi · 01/01/2012 21:04

I got one, including rocking stand for 99p off eBay. Collected it locally. Will need to get new mattress, but I'm guessing it's pretty cheap!

To2012AndBeyondTheLimits · 01/01/2012 21:43

Purple I found that one earlier, I do like it a lot, think I have a voucher here for mothercare too. That's my thinking see - by the time I get the mattress and basket anyway, it'll be just as cheap to get the cheapest "set" from a shop.

DS slept in the pram a lot (btw yes Mummy, I do :)), but as there's the chance DS will still be partly cosleeping (hes 15m, atm he comes in at about 6am) I'd rather not have a newborn and him in the bed. And (I'm hoping!) it'll be easier to plonk DS2 in the moses basket if he comes in, than fight with a toddler Grin

Whereabouts are you? I have one that is currently harbouring a huge pile of ironing, and am quite happy to part with it Smile

To2012AndBeyondTheLimits · 01/01/2012 21:58

South Wales?

Oh sorry, we are miles away, and I don't think it would be worth the postage!

Hope you find one.

thisisyesterday · 01/01/2012 22:14

is the actual basket itself mouldy? or just the fabric?

thisisyesterday · 01/01/2012 22:14

if you're on FB see if you have any buying/selling groups in your area.. we do and they're fab for picking stuff up cheap

blushingmare · 02/01/2012 06:20

A drawer with a nice cot mattress in it?! No joke - I really can't see the point in shelling out money for something that won't be used much, but then, I'm new to this game!Wink

To2012AndBeyondTheLimits · 02/01/2012 11:59

:) thanks anyway chaud

thisis It's the actual basket, the fabric was all taken off for it to go in the attic and is fine. I've had it soaking in bleach in the hope that I could save it, but its really beyond saving... :(
I have posted on FB to ask for one (know loads of people who've had babies recently, thought one would lend me theirs, but no offers so far)

blushing If I had a spare drawer I might be able to consider that Grin

I've just cleared out my drawers of "clothes I won't be wearing in the next year" and put them in a pile at the bottom of the wardrobe, so have LOTS of spare drawers now!! Blush

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 06/01/2012 18:31

Helloo!
Just in case anyone couldnt sleep wondering if I'd found one yet (Grin), I bought one in town today, in a little independent baby shop, for under £20!

nancerama · 06/01/2012 19:11

How many boots advantage points do you have? I got mine "free" with points.

openerofjars · 08/01/2012 00:03

Have you checked out Clair de Lune? I am in exactly the same position so will watch this thread with interest, but so far I think I'm going with this .
