.......had it the complete other end?

Was going to change my name for this post but i'm sure things will get more and more embarrassing throughout pregnancy so no point.

Am only 6 weeks but have had no morning sickness but Diarrhoea. (Mmmmmmmmm nice )

Has anyone else had this? Didn't know if it was to do with being PG or if i've got a nice little bug or something !

Jemma7, I had both and everything at the same time. While experiencing extreme nausea and vomiting, I alternated between having diarrhea and constipation during my 1st trimester. I told my doctor about it, and he didn't seem to think there was anything that wrong with it, or for that matter, anything I could do to help it, except possibly to eat bananas. I never had the diarrhea last more than a few days though. HTH.

marsup · 10/11/2003 17:28

My various pregnancy books say to expect either diarrhoa or constipation at some point, though more usually the latter. I wouldn't be embarrassed about it (unless you get caught out in a really awkward situation)! but do make sure you drink lots and lots of water, dehydration leads to other problems.

handlemecarefully · 10/11/2003 21:14

I didn't get any morning sickness (smug cow eh?) and I am now 17 weeks pregnant. I did however get diarrhoea, but worked out that this was due to the pronatal supplements I was taking. As soon as I stopped these my diarhhoea cleared up. Are you taking any pregnancy vitamins (aside from folic acid of course)? - if so it could be this, some of them are a bit rough on the stomach / bowel

M2T · 10/11/2003 21:22

Jemma7 - Isn't being pregnant glamorous??

I had it ranging from horrible constipation from the Iron tablets.... to diahorrea caused by the laxatives to counteract the Iron! lol.

At the beginning I really resented how this thing in my tummy could take over my life from DAY ONE!

Got used to it though and can't wait to do it again.

Not listening to all the bad bits of pregnancy Laaalalaaalalalaaaaaa >fingers in ears< LAlalalalaaaa.

motherinferior · 11/11/2003 07:56

Well, at least you're starting with no illusions!

Hate being pregnant myself but adore my two little end results.

niknik · 11/11/2003 08:57

Jems, I'm the opposite of you, I've been having awful constipation, in fact it has been givig me abdo pain, but in my book it says not to take any laxatives.
Does anyone know if there is any medication that might be safe to take?

M2T · 11/11/2003 09:03

NikNIk - I was prescribed Senokot (sp?). Its a natural laxative..... watch out though, it RRRRRRRREALLY works!

wilbur · 11/11/2003 09:21

Yes, I got diarrhoea on and off, esp at the beginning of preg, without much actual morning sickness. I think it must be a hormonal reaction with me, as I also get a little, ahem, loose in that department just before my period. Still, saves a fortune on colonic irrigation.

Jemma7 · 11/11/2003 10:12

ROFL @ Wilbur! Good point!

Have heard that its not a problem unless you have it for a long time as it can cause dehydration!

Am drinking lots of fresh orange juice to try and keep my vitamin c intake up!

M2T · 11/11/2003 10:13

JEMMA NO NO NO!!

Orange juice??? This could be why you are getting diahorrea!!
Try stopping that for a day or 2. Citrus fruit is not good when you've got the runs.

Jemma7 · 11/11/2003 10:40

Oh dear - I am useless aren't I!

Thought i was being good by drinking lots of orange Juice and getting lots of Vitamin C - doing more harm than good!!!!

Got a feeling it could take me a while to get used to this pregnancy lark

Just when you start getting used to it.... the symptoms change!

I'd stop drinking OJ for the whole pregnancy coz in a couple of months the heartburn will kick in!

Helsbels · 11/11/2003 10:54

I got heartburn from the day I concieved DS1 and this one looks to be the same. The GP gave me Gaviscon - when I took that it made me sick so just ended up drinking warm milk in the middle of the night. I was told you shouldn't take rennies when you are pg?

M2T · 11/11/2003 10:58

Helsbels - Dunno about rennies, but I was prescribed Maalox. It was just like Milk of Magnesia..... still minging, but not as nauseatingly thick and gloopy as gaviscon. I glugged it from the bottle all day from about 14 wks onwards! lol.

CountessDracula · 11/11/2003 11:02

Jems eat bananas, that should bung you up a bit

It's so nice to hear you talking about your pregnancy after waiting so long! (and everyone else of course) I am getting v broody now...

M2T · 11/11/2003 11:06

Me too CD!!
You and me will be making an announcement in Jan/Feb time..... just got to stem the hormones until after xmas!

CountessDracula · 11/11/2003 11:07

Maybe not M2T (see anyone trying thread...)

Jemma7 · 11/11/2003 11:11

You can't give up CD - even if you do have to live in a tent

Only kidding but don't give up if there might still be 1 tinsy winsy part of you that wants another

I tend to get the runs on the day I get sick - it's like a pleasant little warning... (I'm bizarrely being sick once a week - usually a Sunday/Monday - how considerate of baby to be so regular...). So I feel really rough the whole day, get it all done (literally!) and then am kind of OK for the rest of the week - apart from the heartburn... Milk is fantastic - never drank so much in my life - and Boots indigestion tablets are working much better for me than Gaviscon!

LucieB · 11/11/2003 11:16

I had this problem early on but it soon cleared up. Make sure you keep your fluid intake up and if it continues for longer than a few days, go and see your doctor/midwife.

Jemma7 · 11/11/2003 11:19

I don't suffer from hearburn but DP does and he gets it really bad!
He swears by pint of milk and a banana

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 11/11/2003 11:46

Heh heh you will soon Jemma!!! I agree milk and banana good, esp washed down with a litre or so of Gaviscon Extra

Helsbels · 11/11/2003 11:51

CD you can't escape me - don't stop trying now - get bd'ing asap!!!

CountessDracula · 11/11/2003 11:52

Can't today Helsbels, AF is visiting! OK OK just having last minute nerves I guess! Said to dh in bed last night that the thought of having two filled me with horror and we just lay there giggling for about 10 mins at the thought of all those sleepless nights AGAIN!! Then he said "oh well it's only for a little while" and rolled over and went to sleep. THAT MAN HAS THE SHORTEST MEMORY ON EARTH!!

M2T · 11/11/2003 11:58

lol CD - we are trying controlled crying on our ds just now in a last ditch attempt to get him to sleep all night in his own bed. He's never done it so far and he's 2.4 yrs old....

However...

Last night..... SUCCESS!! But it did mean 2 hrs of crying and we didn't get to sleep until 1am, then back up at 6am for work. Zzzzzzz.

Hopefully this is that start of a good thing though.
