I am 15 and a half weeks pregnant with my first we have seen some really good offers on cot beds etc in the sales however it feels quite early to start buying. Should we snap up the 50% discount or wait until we are further along?

I'm one of the superstitious types, so we haven't bought anything yet and have stowed the gifts we've got out of sight. Having said that I'm now 29 weeks and beginning to feel slightly alarmed that we haven't got anything or even really worked out what we need!

Loveinacoldclimate that's not the first time I've heard of midwives being funny about buying stuff what they consider to be 'early'. Leaving it until AFTER the baby arrives seems daft, tbh, as at least you have time to do it beforehand.

What do people think is the optimum time to buy stuff? I thought it was about 32-34 weeks (when you'll still hopefully have a bit of energy, but not so close to being full time that you've left it too late!).

HotpinkI got my baby things after 25 weeks on my first. My dh went to the States and he got a bargain basement bugaboo so we carried on from there. It was a good thing too as I ended up spending the last few weeks in hospital with pre-eclampsia. Some of the bigger items might take a few weeks to be delivered to the shop/your house too. Good luck!

There are always good offers and deals so if you want to wait then I wouldn't worry that you're missing out unless you have your heart set on something specific.

We only bought a cot at the last minute so everything else was 'adult' furniture and the baby room was like a spare room till the last few weeks.

@anne18 The thread is 6 years old, hopefully the furniture situation has been sorted!
