How early have you found out the sex by a scan?

We are having a private scan next Saturday when I'll be 16w+2. DP works away so won't be here for the 20 week scan so he wanted to see the baby before he goes.

The scan we've booked is a gender scan which the company start at 16 weeks. I have looked online and found out that some places with newer equipment say they can tell the sex from 13 weeks.

I was just wondering if anyone has had a scan at 16 weeks or around there and been able to find out the sex?

Thanks

i was 15+4 with ds last year, but boys are easier to 'see' than girls :)

mosschops30 · 31/12/2011 09:46

15 weeks with ds1, correctly predicted to be a boy.
Apparently its impossible to give a false boy predictions, but you can never be 100% its a girl

LadyBeckenham · 31/12/2011 10:05

16+0, very clearly a boy!

Dru77 · 31/12/2011 10:09

13w for one of my twins, the other was at 20w. To be fair though they have half a chance of guessing correctly so maybe that was lucky.

Sannebanana · 31/12/2011 10:11

I was told at 16 weeks (I think!) that they thought it was a girl but couldn't be sure, then confirmed it was a girl at 20 weeks.

12 weeks with DD2 at a private scan in London. Very modern equipment though!

It's often easier to tell the sex at around 16 weeks as the baby is skinnier with more fluid around and easier to see what's between the legs. At 20 weeks when they are bigger if the legs are shut it's occasionally more difficult. That's when they might say it's probably a girl because they haven't seen a penis/ tesicles, but without a view with the legs wide open they can't be 100% certain.

I had my 12wk scan just before 13wks and DH could see it was a boy. DH does work with ultrasound though (not on humans) :o

Yummymummyyobe1 · 31/12/2011 10:22

We found out at the 20 week scan. We were told that boys look like a small snail. LOL.

xx

34 weeks Smile. They have to be the right way round as well as developed enough for you to tell, and my DD was definitely playing hard to get at our 20 week scan.

lollystix · 31/12/2011 15:20

15+4 with DS4 and clearly a boy. With DS2 I told the sonographer at my 13 week scan (booking) that it was a boy cos I could see a willy. She told me it was too early but I was right.

Kayzr · 31/12/2011 15:28

I hope the baby is in the right position to see the sex then. They show you the baby in 4d too so I'm hoping that will help too.

12 weeks, consultant was adamant it was a boy; it was confirmed at 16, 23 and 35 weeks and he is now sitting watching tv waiting for his dinner :)

kiki22 · 31/12/2011 18:47

by 16 weeks 100% a boy her words were i'm not allowed to say 100% but if it's a girl it's got an extra bit.

Gigondas · 31/12/2011 18:56

12 but with caveat of need to look again later

CheeseandGherkins · 31/12/2011 20:35

12 weeks with 3 of mine, privately, was a professor in London and was right every time. Think I was actually 11 weeks and a few days once too. That was a girl and 2 boys. 16 weeks with last one, girl, was right and 20 weeks this time but I'm 29 weeks at the moment so not born yet but has been said a few times at scans since; another girl.

mrsallcock · 01/01/2012 11:00

It is not always easy as I have heard from obstricians that girls when their clitiris is big can look like a girl which sound mad but true. Depends on clinician and equipment, good luck, whatever it will still be nice to see the baby.

saoirse86 · 01/01/2012 11:06

I was told at 16+3 (when they had a brand new ultrasound machine which was clearer than their usual ones) that dd was probably a girl. TBH it seemed clearer on that machine than on the standard machine they used when I was 23+4.

pommedenoel · 01/01/2012 11:10

Just under 17 weeks was so obvious it was a girl as she showed us up between the legs.

One friend of mine was told at 10 weeks it looked like a boy and indeed he was!

Private scanning equipment sooooo much better than hospital machines.

sybilfaulty · 01/01/2012 11:15

Kayz, I was told with DD2 and DS at the 12 week scan. However, this is only an educated guess apparently, as it's to do with "the angle of the dangle". Both boys and girls have what looks like a willy, but boys' bits point straight up (like a mushroom on a long stalk) and girls bits are off to the side at 45 degrees.

By 16 weeks I think this has resolved itself into proper genitals so, providing the baby is in the right position, you should be able to see properly.

good luck!

AlexTasha · 01/01/2012 15:39

15 weeks found out it was a boy at a gender scan. It was blindingly obvious before the sonographer even said anything!

Sandra2011 · 01/01/2012 20:34

At 12 weeks private scan in both of my 2 pregnancies.

LalasMama · 01/01/2012 20:37

15 weeks with DD. It was my auntie who did the scan and she said shes not allowed to say before 18w. I didnt find out with DS.

naturopath · 01/01/2012 22:38

theladyintheyellowhat · 09/01/2012 22:35
