I know an Elise. Within hours if being born several people had misread the name and called her Elsie so the spelling was changed to Elyse.

Pretty name though.

i know an elise and like the earlier poster wrote, the only drawback is occasionally being called elsie.

I love the name Elise and would have it myself except it's a bit too similar to my name and I don't want to seem narcissistic...

I have loads of self imposed rules on names which have turned out to be a right pain as I've had to ditch my favourite boys name (alliteration with DF's surname) - but I have to recommend the one I've been given time & time again of checking out every possible shortened version or nickname you can think of for your chosen name as children can be horrible nasty creatures.

It's a bit like my name too mine is Lisa and I often get called Lis so we may both get that!

It's soooo hard to chose! I love Lola but her dads surname spoils it ;(

I love Elise but have a little sister called Elspeth, so it's out for me as too similar, particularly as both would be nicknamed Ellie.

My first thought was 'Ellesse' sportswear too.

Your friends are doing absolutely the right thing by cooing over any name you suggest though - that's what they're meant to do, not say 'oh no, that's horrid' or 'I knew someone called that, they were a right pain in the arse'

I've never been one for understanding why people ask for opinions on names though - DH and I haven't bothered discussing options with anyone else for either child, if someone doesn't like what we've picked, that's their hard cheese.

Elise is lovely and I don't think there's a problem with the spelling or pronunciation. People may assume she's French of courrse, not that it's a bad thing!
