I like it Smile

I know an Elise. Within hours if being born several people had misread the name and called her Elsie so the spelling was changed to Elyse.

Pretty name though.

BroomForMyChin · 31/12/2011 03:33

Wasn't that a popular chavy sport brand in the 90's?

MrsRhettButler · 31/12/2011 03:38

No that was ellesse Grin

I love Elise, it's very pretty

TantePiste · 31/12/2011 04:20

i know an elise and like the earlier poster wrote, the only drawback is occasionally being called elsie.

Enfyshedd · 31/12/2011 06:10

I love the name Elise and would have it myself except it's a bit too similar to my name and I don't want to seem narcissistic...

I have loads of self imposed rules on names which have turned out to be a right pain as I've had to ditch my favourite boys name (alliteration with DF's surname) - but I have to recommend the one I've been given time & time again of checking out every possible shortened version or nickname you can think of for your chosen name as children can be horrible nasty creatures.

MillyStar · 31/12/2011 09:32

It's a bit like my name too mine is Lisa and I often get called Lis so we may both get that!

It's soooo hard to chose! I love Lola but her dads surname spoils it ;(

Beautiful name. :)

PiratecatClaus · 31/12/2011 11:36

will it have the sound like 'geese' at the end or 'ease'.? i know an Elise with the latter. i like both.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 31/12/2011 13:20

I love Elise but have a little sister called Elspeth, so it's out for me as too similar, particularly as both would be nicknamed Ellie.

namechange24 · 31/12/2011 13:27

Sorry, but for me an Elise is a sports car...

Tonksforthememories · 31/12/2011 13:29

I love it!

workshy · 31/12/2011 13:33

I love it but it's my cousins name (named after elsie but too dated to use) so I couldn't use it

bonbonpixie · 31/12/2011 16:18

What about Mustang Sally?? Only joking! I think it is a lovely name.
Is the name Scottish? Do you know?

Flisspaps · 31/12/2011 16:33

My first thought was 'Ellesse' sportswear too.

Your friends are doing absolutely the right thing by cooing over any name you suggest though - that's what they're meant to do, not say 'oh no, that's horrid' or 'I knew someone called that, they were a right pain in the arse'

I've never been one for understanding why people ask for opinions on names though - DH and I haven't bothered discussing options with anyone else for either child, if someone doesn't like what we've picked, that's their hard cheese.

babycarmen · 31/12/2011 16:50

Its my DDs middle name so i love it. All that matters is that you like it! :)

MillyStar · 31/12/2011 19:42

Thanks girls, massively leaning towards little Elise now ;)

Elise is lovely and I don't think there's a problem with the spelling or pronunciation. People may assume she's French of courrse, not that it's a bad thing!
