Numbness in left hand

Hi All, I am 32 weeks pregnant. Has anyone been suffering with numbness in their hands at night time? I occasionally get it in my legs but for the past few weeks I have been getting the numbness in my left hand at night time. So annoying!! Wondered if this was normal?

Could it be carpel tunnel syndrome? I think its pretty common in pregnancy, maybe speak to your MW.

Yep, I'm 36+5 and both my hands go numb at night, or whenever I'm lying in bed, and have done for the past few weeks. It is really annoying, but nothing I do seems to make any difference!

I agree with turkeycurry it definitely sounds like carpel tunnel syndrome. Maybe you can get some physio for it to stop it getting worse.

Hello, I had tingling and numbness in my right wrist that got progressively worse throughout my last pregnancy- carpel tunnel, by the back end my middle fingers on my right hand were constantly numb. But within a month of having my son it had righted itself completely, am pregnant again and haven't had it this time.

I get this at night as well, MW said carpel tunnel. It's bloody funny trying to get the bedroom door open during the night when I need to pee, with two numb hands!

I had it with my last pregnancy starting about 35 weeks, in both hands and only at night. It has started again and I am only 16 weeks! It went away last time after the baby was born.

It sounds like carpel tunnel to me too. I was sent to a physio (they do it quickly when you are pregnant) and they gave me splints for each wrist which eased it quite a lot. It went away very soon after delivery. I would see your GP if you can.

I agree - have been getting it in both hands for about the last 4 weeks (I'm 33 weeks now) and it started out just at night and it was waking me up, and then I would wake DH up because I was rubbing my hands and arms! It's now (in the last week or so) started happening during the day as well - MW said probably carpal tunnel syndrome - very common in pregnancy (50-60% of pregnant ladies suffer, apparently). I have been referred to physio and hopefully will get something to help! Apparently when you sleep your hands and wrist relax and flop forwards (IYSWIM) which makes it worse - that's why it is generally worse at night.

I'd speak to your MW or GP and get a physio referral - as roastparsnips says they do it as an urgent referral when you're pregnant!

Good luck - hope you get it sorted! Oh and apparently it goes away after pregnancy (not necessarily immediately) for most people!
