This morning I phoned the number sent to me by my doctor to try to get an appointment with midwives and got met with some jumped up administrator who told me

"judging from your referral letter you'll be under consultant led care and probably need a c section. With any luck you won't lose this one. The senior midwife will decide on the process though. We'll send you an appointment letter in due course"

What the fuck? I lost first baby dd in very late pregnancy, second dd was induced a bit early but there was no c sec and is now a very healthy 6 year old and now I'm expecting again.

Surely it not up to an administrator to make those sort of decisions and even if that's what she thinks she should not say so.

Am so worried about losing another and comments like this do not help :(

Complain, write a letter. She had no right to speak to you like that. She needs a course in tact and diplomacy. Angry for you.

I'm sorry your lost DD. And Congratualtions on your pregnancy Smile

BroomForMyChin · 29/12/2011 13:49

fireandthefury · 29/12/2011 13:51

COmplain complain.

So sorry about your DD1 Sad

buonasera · 29/12/2011 13:56

I'm disgusted but not at all surprised. Don't know where the NHS finds its admins but a significant proportion of them would never get a job anywhere else. Yes, complain, and mention in the letter exactly what she said to you.

Crosshair · 29/12/2011 13:58

Thats awful. :(

Ateallthepurpleones · 29/12/2011 14:00

I agree, she's completely overstepping the mark here. A complaint is definitely in order.

BastedTurkey · 29/12/2011 14:01

Shock and Sad how awful.

If it is not too distressing for you then do complain.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 29/12/2011 14:05

I'm sorry you lost DD1 :(

I agree with everyone else, complain. There are people out there who would do her job with a much better attitude if she doesn't want it!

Congratulations on being pregnant and best wishes x

NoMoreWasabi · 29/12/2011 14:08

Jeez........ I dont know quite what to say!

Def. complain:

  1. She was rude, insensitive and basically should be fired for that alone
  2. An administrator has absolutely no need to go into your medical history without the consent of YOU or expressed wishes of the a HCP (with a purpose, just "read that" isn't good enoug), which she shoud then flag up with the HCP, NOT "discuss" with you...and in which case should NOT under and circumstances be discussing it with you over the phone as the issues were highly personal. There was no reason for her to bring any of it up, as all you were doing was asking for a MW appt. Totally unacceptable, for if no other reason than by reading your notes uncesseserily (after all, she knew deails of previous pregnancies) she's breached data protection protocol.
  3. She is NOT a HCP and CANNOT judge whether you need a MW or consultant in that instance. If anything, the MW who you make an appt with shoudl be reviewing his/her appts and ringing you directly, or she should be flagging it with them, not with you, or phrasing it "I see you're noted as high risk (easily visable on all notes), would you prefer a consultant's appt" and leave it to you.

Push it as far as you can as god knows what this unprofessional, tactless bitch has said to others.
