Im having a huge baby

My DD1 was 9.9lb and 58cm long at birth, im 29 weeks with DC2 and I was measured at antenatal and measured three weeks ahead, the midwife said I have a whopper in there as did the consultant but said it was much better to have a large baby than a small one, now I am going for a VBAC and wondered if their was anything to do to get baby in a good position for birth, and has anyone sucessfully delievered a huge baby after a section, I want stories lol, thanks mememummy

Can't help with a story so just bumping up your thread!
I had a dream last night I was told my baby was coming out 6 stone!!! As long as yours isn't that big I'm sure you will be fine xx

No CS here but DD2 was 10.6, induced at 40 weeks. Easy peasy birth, under an hour from waters to birth, no tears, barely any pushing. Give me a big baby any day!

No personal experience, not given birth yet. I was told though that regardless of the baby's weight the head is not necessarily bigger i.e. 11lb baby same size head as 8lb baby. With that info I'd assume it should be like any VBAC, again I have no experience!

WOW debka! im not being induced, the consultant doesnt believe in anything more than a stretchand sweep I hope my labour is this smooth

I didn't have a c-section but my DD2 was 10lbs 2nd and her head circumstance was off the centime charts as it was so huge. Her birth was much easier than her smaller sister's birth. I think positioning is key. Good luck!

I was told DD2 was going to be a "monster" - she was 6lb 4. Fundal height measurement is guess work at best

I had a 10lb 13oz baby after two previous cesareans. No stitches either (prompting one 'friend' to suggest this suggested I had a bucket fanny pangry])

lean forward as much as possible, stay off the sofa in the evening (tend to lie back or slouch while tv watching), lean forward some more, swim, keep upright. All things to encourage baby head down and spine toward your tummy.

FWIW my easiest birth & speediest out of 4 (no CS's 2 at home) was my 10lb-er. Also keep in mind that baby's growth rates vary and yours may just have had a massive growth spurt when you were measured. They can really only guess at what size your baby will be at birth.

Also watch your sugar intake - sounds unfair, but it can impact on the size of the baby. Keep it even through the day (G.I.)

I agree my easiest births were my two big boys. 11lb 4oz and 10lber. Bothe came out so much easier than their sister!

No CS but honestly size does not necessarily mean a difficult birth.

I was also told I was having a whopper, had loads of extra scans to keep an eye on massive monster baby, was told to expect the baby to come early.... She came 11 days late and 8lb15- by no means overly big! Don't let the, scare you. Good luck with the vbac, hope it all goes well x

Try not to dwell on it too much - easier said than done I know. My 2nd was 11lbs 14oz and it was a much easier birth than DD, who was pretty average in weight and only narrowly avoided EMCS.

Bigger babies are apparently easier to birth anyway - I only found this out after I felt immensely smug - took the wind out of my sails a bit :o

Y'know what though? None of it matters. You have a BABY at the end of this, it doesn't matter how big they are or how they arrive. It's your baby and he or she will be perfect :)

Both fundal measurements and the scan measurements can be very unreliable. Obviously it can do no harm to do all you can to prepare as best you can for labour, and to optimise positioning, but I wouldn't get too hung up on this "measurement".

My baby was measuring just bigger than average BUT I've been told on a number of occasions that her head is in the 80th percentile. Now this is number one for me and I know the 'giant head' thing comes from DH's family (his mother had 2 internal and 2 external stitches after him despite him being the lightest of her 4 children).I feel panicked that I'm going to have a serious tear.........anyone been told their baby had a big head and then it was fine during birth????

Yep, as people are saying, guessing the size of the baby is a very inexact science. I do wonder why they persist in scaring women with assurances of monster huge babies when anecdotally, time and time again people then go on to have perfectly normal sized or even small babies.

My dd2 measured small- so did dd1 but I was sent for extra scans as dd2 was measuring so small.

My usual midwife said she knew the baby was ok- she had seen me with dd1 and knows I carry them tight.

Then I had to see s different one who sent me for a scan- dd1 8lb4oz dd2 8lb8oz

My first words post birth to Mw about dd2 "is she ok? Is she tiny?"
"Erm no- she's a big un!"

I was told with both of mine "wow, its a big one!" and the first was 7.5 lbs and the second was about 6.5 lbs.

I am 5 foot and not a big build so I looked enormous and people kept commenting. Had me worried there for a while.

My first was exactly the same weight/length as mememummy's. < high five >

I was told the second and third were no way as big. And guess what - they were right!

No advice though mememummy - had EMCS for No 1, then thought "bugger that" and had elective CS for Nos 2 and 3.

I think that it is one area where they don't know what they are talking about! I was induced with DS1 as he was 'very small'- he was 7lbs 5oz. They started to say the same with DS2 and I reminded them they had been wrong before-DS2 turned out to be 8lbs 7oz.

Ds1 - 9lb 3oz, emergency section
Ds2 - 9lb 11oz, home water birth
Ds3 - 11lb 2oz, home water birth

I believe it's all about positioning - the baby's and also yours during labour. Keep active and upright. Both of mine were born in the pool with me on all fours and my arms and head draped over the side of the pool. Both times I only had grazes.

Good luck. Big babies don't necessarily mean a bad outcome. I've had friends who have torn when having 6lb babies, and 50% of cases of shoulder dystocia are with babies of 'normal' or lower birthweight.

I was told ds2 was a whopper...he was 7 days late and weighed 8lbs 4oz.

He was very sturdy and had a 38cm head BUT no harder than my previous birth of a little tiddler (ds1 was 4lbs 15oz )

Tore a fair amount with first small 8lber with small head! V bad advice about standing up so too quick.

Second one at home, 9lber with huge head who didnt even give me a scratch as well positioned on all fours with great midwife.

My first 2 dc were whoppers (9lb4 then 10lb13) and the 2nd of them was definitely the easier. I'd advise sitting on a gym ball during labour & using hypnobirthing. They really helped me deliver dc2 with no great drama.
I had extra scans for dc3 - turned out he was a "tiddler" at 8lb6!!

Am now crawling round the living room lol, I no the measurments arent accurate I do feel bigger this time but squishy my bump was like a boulder with DD I feel a lot more relieved now, unfortunatly wasnt offered a section just informed i was having a VBAC but I have come round to the idea now and have NCT antenatal classes, a hypnobirthing cd and the bible AKA mumsnet,

I totally agree with ponty, I dont care how this baby gets her as long as we are both okay and my lala isnt like a wizards sleeve by the end of it
