Maternity jeans, size up, or same size?

Hi,

Just about to buy my first pair of maternity jeans. Do I go up a size, or buy the size that I am now?

Has anyone bought any off ASOS before? x

Same size. They have panels/elastic to adjust to fit. Can't help you on the ASOS though, sorry!

hippieshake · 25/12/2011 21:55

Thank you :) Do they tend to fall down at all? x

I had to get a size up...too much chocolate obviously!

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 25/12/2011 21:57

Same size and yes, the buggers constantly fall down.

meditrina · 25/12/2011 22:06

It should be same size - as that allows for bump shooting out.

But that theory doesn't allow for the other random tricks your body can play - like turning bum and thighs into those of a hippo.

stripeyZ · 25/12/2011 22:51

I got mine a size up & I'm pleased I did as they're now tight around the legs/bum (at 26 weeks).

Everyone swears I've not put on weight though Wink

ASOS is so hit and miss with their maternity stuff. I've got things one size smaller, same size and some stuff I wonder how a pregnant person was ever supposed to fit on them! And I was only 22 weeks!!!!!! I got my mat jeans from mamas n papas in the sale. Comfiest jeans I've ever owned plenty of room but I have had to go a size smaller

Topshop/gap buy the same size. In Pumpkin Patch, where I think the jeans are the best, it depends on the style.

I got mine from Next - sale's on at the moment if you can be bothered, but there's a permanent "clearance" section on their website where I got mine from and they were £12 a pair...got some the normal size (which I can no longer fit into but I have put on 3.5 stone by 32 weeks!) and some the size up which are just about OK and so long as I don't spread any more will do me til the end. I got under-bump ones which do fall down...might consider over bump ones next time (next time? ) - but normally I hate having clothing etc on my tum so assumed it would be the same while preggo. I was right in the first 4 months but now I don't really care. I have also had a couple of pairs of leggings from H&M which were about £12 each and they are great - although a little long in the leg (I have a 31-32" inside leg normally) and I now need to wear a belly support band because there is no support in the leggings and I end up with backache!

I think you don't really find out whether or where you are going to put on weight until you actually put it on, so I'd be tempted to just buy one or two pairs for now and get some more later. Good luck! Xmas Smile

Found I had to go a size down in a few shops, inc Topshop & H&M as the jeans seemed to be cut more loosely on the thigh & bum than the non maternity style and kept falling down (under bump style)

Bought some really good over-the-bump skinny jeans a few weeks ago from Dorothy Perkins - worn them constantly, £20 in the sale. Good as you can wear your normal tops with them as when they ride up the very high waistband prevents you from inadvertently flashing any skin.

Rosemallow · 26/12/2011 11:56

I agree with Snoozed - I went down a size in most shops. Found mamas and papas to be good and DPs good for cheap stuff.

Sandra2011 · 26/12/2011 11:57

I got lovely ones from Debenhams www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_103020583547_-1?breadcrumb=Home~Women~Maternity+clothing

And I have to say these are the most comfy jeans ever!

(Also on sale now)

I went down a size initially (about 18 weeks) with Topshop under bump jeans, but by 38 weeks couldn't stand to wear them as hideously uncomfortable. I put them on one morning just after starting mat leave, drove DH to work and went to walk dog en route to Dsis's and arrived at Dsis's flat begging her to lend me some (non-mat) leggings as I couldn't take the constriction anymore. The under-bump bit was digging into my bump agonisingly and my knees felt restricted too (skinny jeans). So perhaps start off with the size that fits but be prepared to need to go up a size towards the end?

I have Gap over-bump jeans this time which don't dig in, but fall down a lot (am 26 weeks and they won't stay up!). Maybe as I get bigger they will stay up better. I actually tried safety-pinning them to my bra last week, but as soon as I climbed into the car the safety-pins let go and spiked me in the sides so I had to give it up. This is why I usually wear dresses when pg!

I love my maternity jeans from H&M, over bump ones. Try a couple of sizes, because as with normal jeans the fit changes between styles and shops. You can always return the ones that don't fit - they are supposed to be the same size as your non-mat ones though.

passthestuffing · 26/12/2011 15:38

Agree with above re ASOS ...cannot trust their sizes v wierd.all went back. I went up a size right at end (and am still in m/care mat jeans under bump 7m on as find normal jeans rub on my section scar plus I'm in denial about weight gain:( ). I liked h&m over bump during preg but ripped at lycra and crotch which. Moght be due to cakes :(

NewBikeForChristmas · 26/12/2011 15:50

Up at H& M, down at Dotty P. Same everywhere else.

Ains16 · 26/12/2011 22:06

I found ASOS the exact same, bought black pair and blue pair of same over bump jeans and the black pair are amazing....comfiest jeans ever and the blue are pretty much under bump they're so wee. I find under bump so uncomfy, love my belly huggers lol
