Is this labour? HELP!

I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with DC2 so you'd think I would know what I am doing but sadly not!

Woke up yesterday sort of damp (tmi!) and when I wiped it was sort of pinky with blood and a bit like the consistency of snot (sorry again tmi!). Not much of it so I just wiped and assumed it was just a 'show' which I can only assume it was.

Today I am getting what feels like period pains every 15 minutes or so that are quite intense.

With DS1 I didn't have a show and contractions felt more in my back. Is this labour? Or just early labour? Or just braxton hicks? Do I need to phone anyone or just stay at home?

I would be phoning the midwive pronto! It will definitely be worth getting checked over! Good luck!

WeeLors · 22/12/2011 13:37

Sounds like early labour to me. Just keep an eye on how close together and how consistent your cramps are, might take a while to get going properly. Of course, they could also tail off to nothing, as I say, just keep monitoring how often they are.

Ooh, maybe a christmes day baby Xmas Grin

secretcodes · 22/12/2011 13:55

Ohh I hope not WeeLors! Really don't want to be away from DS1 on Christmas day. Wasn't due til 29th and was 10 days late with DS so assumed I would make it past Christmas and possibly even new year! Not looking likely now but we'll see. Thank you for your advice both of you. I will keep an eye on things. How frequent do they need to be before I go to hospital? Sorry I should know all his but was induced last time so have no idea what's happening!

5 mins apart and lasting a minute really, but you can go and get checked. If your waters have gone then you are on a timer so probably need to get that checked. My waters dribbled so was hard to tell! Sounds very hopeful! Xmas Envy Xmas Grin

A minute long??! Oh christ alive I forgot how long they last for. DS is 4 now and labour seems a bit of a blur. At the minute they're only about 20 seconds long but down to every 10 minutes or so. Don't think my waters have gone but they had to break them for me last time so I don't really know how it feels or how wet it was as the midwife did it on a towel or sheet or something. I don't feel a need to push yet so I am taking that as I still have a fair way to go!

If they are regular like 5 mins apart but not lasting a minute I would probably still go and get checked as you could still be dilating. Have you given MW a call?
Maybe put a pad on to see how heavy any 'loss' there is in an hour or so? You are definitely getting somewhere though I would have said. A christmas baby!

Anything moving?????

secretcodes · 22/12/2011 20:16

Well contranctions are now every 3- 4 minutes and much stronger. DH phoned the midwives and they said to stay at home until I couldn't bare the pain. Well I didn't have pain relief last time so I have no idea how long that will be! I suppose it won't be too much longer now. Just feeling very anxious now. Got my sister on call to watch ds while he's in bed and I don't want to leave him. Feeling a bit over emotional to be honest!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 22/12/2011 20:39

Emotional could be a sign you are about to really get going. It is very normal to feel anxious also. Soon you will be holding your lovely new baby! Do you know what your having?

TysTheSeasonToBeJolly · 22/12/2011 20:44

Oh Good luck!

Pantofino · 22/12/2011 20:59

Oh yes - definitely getting there! Don't leave it TOO late to get to the hospital. One thing to be home and another sitting in the car....And Gas and Air will await you at the hospital. I am going for a lovely baby about 3am! Xmas Envy

Sorry only just got home! DS2 was born at 4:08am this morning weighing 9lbs 11 ounces Shock. He's gorgeous and utterly yummy!

Ended up going into hospital about 10pm only to be sent home as the contractions stopped being so regular and was only 2cm dilated. Then conractions came back with a vengance at 12pm. Stayed at home as long as I could until 3am when we got back to hospital I was 7cm dilated and delivered naturally within an hour. Was painful to say the least, a lot more intense than labour with DS1 which was far more calm and manageable but managed this time with just a bit of gas and air and a lot of crying!

Thank you ladies for the support and advice. Very glad to be home and we're all healthy and looking forward to a lovely Christmas.
