When to pack the bag?!

Hi
I am not doing very well at getting prepared for anything. 28 weeks and keep thinking I will start getting everything sorted after Xmas, which I still think is plenty of time!

I am going on a hen weekend at 34 weeks about three hours away from home, really looking forward to it, helping to organise it and it will be lovely.

My question is, do you think I should take my packed hospital bag, car seat and notes just in case I go into labour? Very unlikely I know, but I wouldn't want to be caught out and it would be just my luck. If I do want all that stuff to be ready by 34 weeks I need to get cracking!!

Hx

I had mine fully packed by 36 weeks, as I had a scare at 35 weeks (they thought I was going to go into labour) I think it helps to have it all done by 35/36 weeks just in case you do go into labour prematurely etc.

I would definitely just take your notes and a few bits with you on the hen weekend, just in case.

I spent most of my time from 30 weeks with ds2 in hospital and was induced at 38 weeks do my bag was packed early!

I went into hospital with contractions at 31wks thanks to a UTI...so, well, hell yeah, I'd be packing a basic kit now and then expanding it as you go along and think of more crap stuff to put in.

Mine was packed and in the car at 34 weeks. It's still there waiting for me...

TopazMortmain · 22/12/2011 11:30

Am 34 weeks and have been told variously to pack bag now, at 36 weeks and at 38 weeks so who knows Grin

I would keep your notes with you and emergency numbers at the very least

Gigondas · 22/12/2011 11:38

I am 35 weeks- I have thought about it . Does that count? Wink

mummymccar · 22/12/2011 12:47

I'm 31 today and I've bought most things for mine after ending up in hospital last week with contractions.

helgaw99 · 22/12/2011 12:58

Thanks ladies

So taking the car seat to the hen weekend is overkill?

Perhaps not!
How far away will you be, and will someone be able to get to you before you're discharged from hospital...probably as your LO woudl be considered prem...I know I have DH fitting our this weekend...because he's been very naughty and not done it yet...Hmm

Gigondas · 22/12/2011 18:25

Mentally makes note to tell dh to get car seat out then sees Xmas chocolate and gets distracted]

Joking apart, if you have had contractions or some other warning that will be early or makes you feel better, then no harm in having Bag ready early . 2nd time around for me so I know baby stuff is to hand if needed and also know that won't need half stuff needed last time in bag so I can sort it in 10 mins if necessary.

It really is whatever suits you.

moominliz · 23/12/2011 14:10

I'm 34 weeks and am getting my hospital bag and contents as a Christmas present, hopefully baby won't arrive early as I'd look rather foolish unwrapping all the bits and pieces in the delivery room!

I think if you've been fine throughout your pregnancy then just take your notes at the very most.
